Now that autumn has truly arrived my passenger is getting an icy cold blast when the engine is first fired up even with the ventilation set to screen only. Is this normal?

Should'nt be normal, but I've never got anything much out of my footwell vents despite running the "factory default" setup.
What system you got? Climatic three knob; or Climatronic two windows? If Climatic then you'll need VCDS to reset to defaults.
With Climatronic it can be done with the settings knobs

It's Climatic. Thanks for the lead

There can be two things:
1- The temperature sensor in the footwell ventilation is brooken. This can be checked by VCDS or measured with a multi meter (the sensor has a surtain resistance which changes when the sensor is heated.
2- The regulating valve V158 or V159 is brooken. Testing with outputtest VCDS.

Thanks for the reply. I get "iO" when I run my Climatronic's diagnostics (in Ordnung). And no fault code found in HVAC section of VCDS. To investigate further need to remove tunnel covers to check trunking. More work for little return!

Anyone else not get much from footwell heating? Seem to recall my Citroen CXs giving me warm toes quite quickly in frosty weather...

You don't have to remove anything if you have VCDS.
Look into the measing blocks to see which of the two is not working properly.
To fix it, yes you have to remove some parts, and twist you back to see what you are doing.

I will look at the measuring blocks again, even though I have no fault code found:

What i meant is in module 08 HVAC, then select measuring blocks.
Then select group 5 and there are the temperatures of the sensor. Here you can see if one is out of range or has a strange reading.

005,0,Outlet/Footwell Blower Temperature
005,1,Left Outlet Blower,Temperature,Display Range: 0...84 °C
005,2,Right Outlet Blower,Temperature,Display Range: 0...84 °C
005,3,Left Footwell,Blower Temp.,Display Range: 0...84 °C
005,4,Right Footwell,Blower Temp.,Display Range: 0...84 °C

Mostly if a sensor gives 84 degrees then the sensor is broken (kaputt how do you say this in Englisch?)

If the sensors are all ok. Then perform an output test of the actuators.
Select module 08 HVAC
Setect 03 Outputtest
Select sequential or selective (sometimes sequential is the only choice)
Then watch the numbers on the screen when the actuator is working, this goes automated from mininum to maximum every few seconds.
The actuator which is not reaching the requested setting is the one you got to change.

Martijn, hope you're having a good New Year?

Here are my figures for the HVAC readings you posted:

What i meant is in module 08 HVAC, then select measuring blocks.
With engine running at idle from cold I get:

Then select group 5 and there are the temperatures of the sensor. Here you can see if one is out of range or has a strange reading.

005,0,Outlet/Footwell Blower Temperature
I don't see this box 0

005,1,Left Outlet Blower,Temperature,Display Range: 0...84 °C
18°C and rising

005,2,Right Outlet Blower,Temperature,Display Range: 0...84 °C
17°C and rising

005,3,Left Footwell,Blower Temp.,Display Range: 0...84 °C
23°C and rising

005,4,Right Footwell,Blower Temp.,Display Range: 0...84 °C
22°C and rising

Mostly if a sensor gives 84 degrees then the sensor is broken (kaputt how do you say this in Englisch?)
Fcked ;) None of these readings gave a 84°C readout

If the sensors are all ok. Then perform an output test of the actuators.
Select module 08 HVAC
Setect 03 Outputtest
Select sequential or selective (sometimes sequential is the only choice)
Sequental
Then watch the numbers on the screen when the actuator (http://rd.shopzilla.co.uk/rd2?t=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lampspecs.co.uk%2FLighting-Accessories%2FMovement-Sensors%2FPhilips-LRA1750-Occuswitch-Wireless-Actuator%3Fleadsource%3D103&mid=151652&catId=14036&atom=11287&prodId=&oid=4272123471&pos=1&bId=18&bidType=0&bAmt=08d896c51a7a8290&cobrand=2&ppr=08868b0c71e7349c&rf=af1&af_assettype_id=10&af_creative_id=6) is working, this goes automated from mininum to maximum every few seconds.
The actuator (http://rd.shopzilla.co.uk/rd2?t=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lampspecs.co.uk%2FLighting-Accessories%2FMovement-Sensors%2FPhilips-LRA1750-Occuswitch-Wireless-Actuator%3Fleadsource%3D103&mid=151652&catId=14036&atom=11287&prodId=&oid=4272123471&pos=1&bId=18&bidType=0&bAmt=08d896c51a7a8290&cobrand=2&ppr=08868b0c71e7349c&rf=af1&af_assettype_id=10&af_creative_id=6) which is not reaching the requested setting is the one you got to change.

I did IGN on only, Start, Self-test, Activate, Blower starts part speed then full speed, (box with + in it, box all black then .8 shown on Climatronic windows) Next:

Actuating Motor for temperature flap left (V158), Activate, 232.0, changing 230/33.0, 33.0, 230.0

Actuating Motor for temperature flap right (V159), Activate, 222.0, changing 221.0/25.0, 25.0, 221.0

Air re-circulation flap positioning motor (V113), Activate, 48.0, 208.0/48.0, 48.0, 208.0

Air flow flap positioning Motor (V11), Activate, 231.0, changing 231.0/29.0, 29.0, 231.0

Defroster flap positioning motor, Activate, 56.0, 33.0, 33.0, 225.0

Positioning motor for control flap (V70), Activate, 123.0, 26.0, 26.0, 231.0

Motor for blocking flap; Defrost and Body Vents; Left (V200), Activate, 46.0, changing 201.0/50.0, 50.0, 201.0

Air Compressor regulator valve (N280), Activate, rises to 0.5A

Fresh Air Blower (V2), Activate, Voltage 8.3V, END

Do you see anything unusual?
Where is block 5.0?

Bestes

Seems all OK to me.
Block 5.0 are no values, thats correct.

Do you have an extra (Electrical heater installed?)
Look in VSCD with autoscan to adress 7D.

No aux heater here. Thanks for the heads up. :beerchug:
If I want warm toes looks like I will have to check the trunking down to footwell outlets :boggled:

Maybe the levers from the actuator is snapped or something like that.
