I've just been chatting to a colleague at work who hit a dog whilst driving his XF and the Pedestrian Protection System deployed. Under his insurance it's costing the best part of 4K to get fixed. I've had a google about to see if the C7 has such a thing, but can't really find anything about it. I like the idea of the system, and protection of people, so does anyone know if our C7s have this thing installed as it sounds a horrendous scenario if it ever goes though, even an accidental deployment that I read briefly about on the *** forums.

I may be wrong, but I believe the reason the jags have it is becuase there is not enough room between the bonnet and the engine block to allow for adequate deflection of the bonnet before it hits the block. So at the moment of impact, the bonnet is raised on gas fired struts to provide the necessary room for deflection.

I assume the C7 has adequate distance between the bonnet and the block to provide for the crumple zone without having to "artificially" create it.

Personally Im not a fan of the system on the ***. As you say, very expensive if it deploys when you don't need it to, and very dangerous for the pedestrian if it doesn't deploy when you need it to. Id prfer to be safe in the knowledge that the crumple zone is permanently there without the need for reliance on another system.

That being said, the pedestrian impact score for the xf is considerably better than that of the A6. Both tested 2011.

The adult occupant, child occupant and safety assist scores for the Audi were however better than the XF.
