Hi there everyone,
Just bought a new motor. 2001 2.5tdi quattro (180) with 150,000 miles on the clock. Planning on some tuning but first I need to get her strait and really hoping you gents can help me out over the next few months.
Are there any know common faults with these or anything I should particularly be looking out for?
Known problems, sorry it's a bit wordy. And I know it'll be hard to diagnose some of this stuff over the internet
The engine mount appears to be on the way out. Vibes at tick over and can feel slight movement on the sick while pulling away. Not a massive issue in itself. Was thinking about going forsome fast road items (rubber dampened not fluid) from "awesome git". Anyone try these?
Knock when pulling away. Only occurs occasionally at this stage but is audible and also felt as a couple of knocks or thuds in quick succession. I think this may be separate to the mount. Possibly prop shaft/center beating/carrier related. Not had a rear wheel drive before, nor and Audi for that matter, is this something scary and expensive. Could I be right about the prop or.... Thoughts
Appears to be weeping what appears to be a bit of diesel from around a couple of the injectors. Today I replaced the soft braided items that link across the injectors, as the old ones looked like they've seen better days. Hi pressure brake cleaned the areas and thought I'd keep an eye on its progress but I'm not convinced this is the culprit, more like where the hard lined injector goes into the head can cover. Is this common? Easily remedied?
Reverse light not working and bulbs appear to be fine. Gearbox switch? Is it easy to get at if so?
