I have had my 2011 A6 Avant Multitronic 170PS SLine spec edition C6 for a few weeks and I am not really happy with the power or the handling.
Looks lovely but compared to previous BMW 530SE tourer auto and an A4 avant 163 the performance is disappointing.
Am considering changing to either
1) A new 2015 facelifted A6 190 ultra Avant SE stronic with tech pack & HDD nav , heated sports seats. This would be just over £30K via DtD, or
2) a demonstrator early 2014 A6 245 Quattro Avant Sline stronic with less than 8K miles. Minimal options. This would be £2 or 3 K more.
Obviously 1) is going to offer better tax and mpg and navigation; whereas 2) should be a better drive. Any quattro owners out there think the extra power and 4WD is worth it?
Any obvious snags.?
thanks BB

245, worth the extra for Quattro and power. Tax is pretty decent.

Am trying to figure out how the beemer got mentioned and then you moved onto a multitronic box with a far smaller engine?:)
Sounds like you should have gone quattro from t'start.

I just don't like front wheel drive cars, so would have to be the quattro for me. Plus the 3 litre is not just quicker, but quieter and more refined. It would be an easy choice for me.

If I'd been able to get a good deal on finance I'd have had a year old 3.0 any day of the week. The ultra is great, but not enough power for any real enjoyment.

Hmm that's a tough choice. I like option 1) for the facelift, economy and tech pack, but I think 2) edges it because the quattro and power (+ s line) really make the difference. Also if you found the 170 sluggish and the handling poor, then its the quattro all the way.

I had a C6 S line 2 litre multi tronic, change to a C7 s line 177 and I thought that was pretty decent, but almost 6 months ago replaced this with an S line 245 quattro. . . .still smiling everyday, just bought winter wheels and tyre set and can't wait for winter to set in.
jist one problem, I need to grow up, it's been 35 years since I was a teenager but just can't help firing it up when I get a tailgating 520 Beemer behind me, especially on twisting roads

trading off economy for power and cost works but only a little! The 2005 BMW 530 Tourer was also very unreliable!

It see what you mean ! I borrowed a friend's 2500 mile new A6 Avant 245 BHP quattro last Sunday. She said the quattro was great and she is right. I took it round some local lanes in the New Forest. Amazing, brought a grin back to my face!
The new (well, 9month old, 7k mile) Phantom black 245 bhb S-Line quattro arrives from a dealer in Scotland on Wednesday.
ps: we get a lot of floods round here, does anyone know how high the A6 V6 air intake is located?

No idea about the intake but the Sline does sit very low to the ground so I suspect it's not going to be your friend in flood conditions.

I think the allroad wading depth is 30 or 35cm if I recall - and I assume that is making use of 'lift' mode on the air suspension so I'd suggest caution in floods with an S line.

Definitely check where the air intake is located. Several years ago on a previous Audi I took it through some deep floods. The car got me home, but was belching black smoke and the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree. The air intake had gone under the water, been sucked into the engine, refused to compress, and then bent the rods and valves. (it was a diesel with a high CR)
New engines from Audi don't come cheap! Especially with their labour charges and the complications of Quattro diffs/gearbox.
