Hello. I have a 2014 A6 with audi connect 'technology pack' installed.
Just wondered how you guys can play back podcasts etc. There is a 'widget' in my online audi account but it says its for a A3 or Q1
I was hoping for a solution whereby I don't have to touch the phone (iphone 5)

Think it has been added as part of the new MMI 3G+ in the facelift but is not in the pre-facelift version

OK, whats a facelift sorry?
The widget appeared in my 'myaudi' thing but the instructions are confusing. I have a 3G sim in the car.
To ne honest I have not actually connected my iphone with the cable thing yet, can it access the iphones podcasts? I'll have to try tomorrow.

Facelift is the revised version of the current A6 just announced which features an upgraded MMI system.
AMI only allows you to play stored music and podcasts from the iTunes folder on your phone. Just realised I confused Podcast and online media such as Spotify, apologies for that. Believe you can stream on-line media from you phone via bluetooth, but that requires you to control the selection process from the phone not the car.

Ah ok. I am beginning to wonder that apart from a virtually pointless touch pad which requires you to be left handed, what the 1800 quid 'technology pack' actually does.

It gives you (with a separate data SIM in the dash as you have an iPhone) real time traffic information in the navigation system plus access to other internet services, a better navigation system, colour DIS, google image overlay to the navigation.

Firstly assuming iphone is bluetooth connected and also plugged in to AMI, and your podcasts are already downloaded then:
Hold the iphone button - this will get Siri on your bluetooth. Ask Siri to play all podcasts.
Not quite hands free but one press.

Um, thats basically breaking the law innit?
I don't understand why audi have created this fancy looking proprietary USB connector thingy which seems to serve no more purpose than a standard USB socket? Aside from charging my phone what does it actually do? I can only assume its so they can charge people 70 quid for a cable. I must say I am really struggling to understand Audi, its quite an expensive car with promises, none of which quite come to fruition.
My biggest frustrations are them near misses. This is not just Audi now.
For instance, I have to drive many thousands of miles a year. I am a tight wad so have not opted for being taxed for private miles so I have to record my milage.
Here is an app on the iphone apparently in some way connected to the audi. Here is an Audi connected to the internet. Here is a sat nav which can take instruction from the internet.
Why then is there not a facility on the car to record milage each day? Seems so simple to me. export as .csv so I can bang it into excel, off we go. Someone somewhere must have thought of this but decided they could not monetise it or what ever.
Another one. I am in sales, driving around all day, sometimes see businesses etc that would be of interest. Here is a car with a 10gig memory space, and a microphone. Why is there no facility for recording audio clips?
Its this frustrating lack of simple ingenuity that just gets me down.
Anyways rant over!

No. You don't need to hold the phone to press the siri button so it is not an offence.

You get the cable for free. It is used to drive the AMI.

It's a car. I sense you're expecting too much from it.

A phones a phone, but we expect a lot more from it. Just because its a car does not mean one shouldn't expect more from it surely? I have to spend 2-6 hours a day in the damn thing!
Its got a computer in there, with a harddrive and everything.
But hey, just my thoughts nothing more.

Not defending Audi here but does any car offer the features you think should be there? I can not think of any

In fairness I did raise this as a broader point not directly at Audi. They would just be cool features is all :)

So would rocket thrusters, radar and forward facing machine guns. Ain't gonna happen though.

...touch pad which requires you to be left handed...
All these years I've been wondering why I feel slightly "disconnected" from what I'm trying to control in the centre console, especially programming sat navs.
You've hit the nail on the head, Gareth. I'm right-handed and all this tech stuff is on my left. D'oh, I feel such a chump! :D

The touchpad is spot on for the LHD / right handed market but doesn't translate well to the RHD / right handed world :(
