Hi Folks,

Im looking for an experienced opinion on whether my Cluster is damaged or whether my Ignition switch is faulty.

Here is the cluster a while back

Audi A4 B5 1.6 Dash Problems - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM7C1ehHIMQ)

Some people say its the cluster itself thats gone faulty however i am now thinking its the ignition switch for the following reasons

1 - The odometer and clock come on 100% and stay lit when the door is unlocked with no key in ignition like it should.
2 - VCDS is giving this error.

Address 17 ------------------------------------------------------- Controller: 8D0 920 950 B
Component: KOMBI+WEGFAHRS. M73 D13
Coding: 00000
Shop #: WSC 65536
Ident.-Nr. Wegfahrs.:AUZ5Z0XN305196
2 Faults Found:
01179 - Incorrect Key Programming
35-00 - -
65535 - Internal Control Module Memory Error
00-00 - -

3 - It has a flashing immobiliser light on dash all the time when key is in.

Has anyone came across something like this before?

Someone may have coded the key using a copy of something like can commander or vag tacho. look here for your fault codes. Ross-Tech Wiki (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) those clusters do die if you have a full version of VCDS you can put in a new cluster all the 2nd hand ones are going to be old

I have the car about 8 years and a woman had it from new before that. I can nearly guarantee no one was at it with VagTacho or Can Commander. Its throwing up this error about a year now but not causing any bother really. Never had a reason to get it fixed.

Any ideas where to go to get a cluster new? Ive been trawling Ebay etc for years and never seent the exact one. Mine was only in the 2000 model apparently.

Probably a main dealer for a new one. You can get your own cluster repaired so no coding needed there are a few threads on this site about this I think it's a quick turnaround if you live in the UK

Cheers. Theres a chap here that needs the car for 3 days to sort it. Id say ill get the ignition switch changed and if that doesnt sort it then ill send it to them.

This problem is just annoying more than anything. Car runs fine so no rush to get it sorted.

I see you're in Ireland you could try Hamilton's on Camden St D8 for cluster repairs

Long way away. Im down the South. Theres a chap about an Hours Drive who was recommended by a Garage. They say they sent about 30 Clusters down to him an he fixed every one of them. Charges about £100.
