I see that the new Passat is available with a 2.0 BiTDi engine (237bhp) and 4Motion. Wondering if and when this engine might appear in the Audi range and specifically the A6. Perhaps it will come first with the new A4. With the trend towards downsizing engines (new Mondeo is getting the 1.0 3 cylinder engine and Volvo not planning to offer anything bigger than a 4cyl 2.0 engine) it seems highly likely that Audi (and the rest of VAG) will follow suit.

Possibly in the future, however, having already announced the upcoming engine lineup it would be some way ahead. Anyway, can you really see any appeal in a 2.0lt luxo barge?

All manufacturers need to reduce emission across the range, and reducing consumption helps that, so smaller more efficient engines will be use. And the 2.0l has been very successful in the A6 in the UK or years due to our propensity for company cars.

Indeed, I agree, and the 2.0lt lump will always be the mainstay for all sorts of reasons. However, I was merely stating my opinion that for some applications the larger unit (for the time being) will be the power unit of choice. However, yes, the way forward for the industry is to increase efficiency from smaller and smaller powertrains

I would say yes to replace the lower ouput v6 unit
bmw hve done the same with the 525d which is now 4 pot twin turbo

I would think It's a shoe in for the A3 at some stage and even for the A4. It's gonna be interesting to see what the line up is like for the C8. My preference would be a 3.0lt straight six petrol, probably ain't gonna happen though.

I do think though that we will see petrol return the UK, perhaps the 1.8 with a twin turbo + Cylinder on Demand, due the politicians now deciding that diesel is the devil's spawn! Interesting also to see that Audi has dropped the hybrid from the A6 PI

Jamiefc, apology for disliking your post. Finger error!
Hi John, did you mention a new A4 in the first post? When is that available? I'm on my second A6 C7 and would love to see a new A4 or even better, a new A5. Not a facelift either, a new design. Esp. The interiors, they are very outdated now on the A4 and A5 (in my humble opinion). Not a lot of competition for the A6 its beautiful inside and outside. Can't afford to push to the A7 :-(

A new A4 and A5 (model code B9) are in the pipeline with many suggesting a launch for the A4 in 2015, some even suggest late 2014 but that seems a bit unlikely now. I would think Geneva next year is most likely. This will be a complete new car from the ground up, presumably sharing the same basic platform as the new Passat just launched

I think the new A4 could be rather good. Expect sub 100 gram emissions and an e-tron version. Something to compete with the *** XE. But I guess that availability won't be until summer/autumn - with the obligatory 1 month of dilly-dallying....

From the little I've seen the A4 is a bit of a stunner, actually considering one for the missus.

The rumor is that the A4 should have launched earlier this year but was delayed so Audi could work on the suspension and assistance systems RUMOR: Audi A4 AND Q7 DELAYED AGAIN — IF True, How Much Longer Can Audi Wait? - AutoSpies Auto News (http://www.autospies.com/news/RUMOR-Audi-A4-AND-Q7-DELAYED-AGAIN-IF-True-How-Much-Longer-Can-Audi-Wait-80333/). There was a lot of speculation the A4 would launch at the Paris motor show, as that didn't happen it's possible it might launch at LA as Audi are showcasing 3 world exclusives, but there is a lot of doubt over that now as well.. The expectation at LA is the launch of the concept A9, possibly the new RS3 and the 3rd...?
My money is also on Geneva as johnsimcox (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/member.php?102077-johnsimcox) has said..

I guess there is always Detroit which has a higher status than LA but would still expect a European launch for such a strategically important car as the A4. Some reports suggest that this car will also be the first to get an Electronic Quattro option
