hi guys,
my first post here since getting my mk6 tsi cab :)
it does this weird think with the brakes when waiting on a slope to move off - the brake peddle goes rock solid and i can feel the brake go on full and then 5 secs later release - most odd :/
not really sure what it is up to :D
any ideas? ive looks in manual, but find it pretty useless for finding anything useful
thanks

Hi Dan. What you're experiencing sounds like the hill hold function which is a feature designed to prevent the car rolling back when you stop on an upward facing incline and take your foot off the brake. It's a standard feature on my mk6 Golf GTD, and I think it's standard on cabriolet models too. There's a very brief description of the function in the technical glossary on the VW website; link below;
Hill Hold : Volkswagen UK (http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/technology/glossary/hill-hold)

HI, My Car does it too, as explained its the hill assist, takes a bit of getting used to, mines DSG so doesn't realy need it, just take your foot of the brake early to overcome the hesitation that's felt. When setting off, you will soon get used of it.

Welcome to the forum Dan.
It sounds like hill hold but I don't have it or need it on my GTD. You can enable it with VAG-COM/VCDS.
Its your first post so I will ask this once, its a good idea to add your car spec to your signature

My mum hated it on her Polo 6R so I turned it off using VAS PC and the VW system gets very stroppy about you doing this insisting it is a driving school only request which is daft as we have lived without it for the last 100 years!

On the grey menu bar at the top below the orange one you click on Forum Actions - Edit Profile. Under My Settings you will see Edit Signature. Type in your spec and click Preview Signature to see what it looks like then click Save Signature.

Yes a VW dealer is able to change the ABS system coding to remove the hill hold assist but they may refuse to do it.
