Would a 60 plate with just over 100,000 miles be worth considering? It the cheaper RFL version and the 8 speed box, so more economical, as I do high mileage. Would there be any potential long term issues? The plan would be to keep it for 2-3 years at circa 30 - 40 thousand miles a year. Thanks in advance!

Running costs!
Do you really need it for those miles.
Budget between 4-8 sets of tires at £600+ a set

Keep your A4.
Going to a Q7 will break your heart and wallet.

I don't pay for fuel, so it's not so much of an issue. Unfortunately, yes I do that kind of mileage. 4-8 sets of tyres? I thought there was a fix for excessive tyre wear and 20,000 miles a set was achievable. It will all be motorway mileage.

Unfortunately I need a 7 seater, so it's more out of necessity than choice.
The newer versions from a 60 plate onwards have the RFL at £285 a year and achieve a better combined mileage of approx 38mpg (I know in the real world it will be different) my A6 Avant only achieved a lifetime average of 36.6mpg! That was over 160,000 miles!!

Do you really need one the size of a Q7 or would an S-max or similar be better?

An S-Max? That's a bit below the belt! I'm a VAG enthusiast - I couldn't drive a Ford - no offence to Ford.

The wife and I are also considering a Q7. We just want to test drive one to make sure it will fit in car parking spaces etc. Will probably look for a test drive in the next month or so.

Got a Q5 instead - day 6 of ownership and it's brilliant!

is it big enough for everything you need? Q5 is also an option but she likes the Q7 for long comfy drives to france skiing etc.

It's wider than an A4 and the rear seats move back about 5-6 inches - giving rear passengers extra leg room. I looked at Q7s, but due to the mileage I do (PCP and finance schemes don't work) it would have been an outright purchase - the cost of associated running just didn't stack up. So I looked at the Q5 - it's better fuel economy. Cheaper road tax £265 and the 3.0tdi engine is a beast! But you've enjoyed that in the A7! Have a look at an SQ5?

Haha, yes I do. We would keep the A7 and sell her A5 to get the new car. I will have to go to a dealer I think and see what they have to drive and what their deals are like. Not in much of a rush yet just thinking about our options.
