Hi all,
New to this forum, its about my wifes A4 saloon on a 51 plate 1.9tdi
On the dash esp light and flashing coil light, and the brake lights are permanently on, but ONLY when the side lights or headlights are switched on.
with the headlights off the brake lights work normally, but the warning lights are still on the dash.
any ideas please.

The usual course of action is a fault code scan but you don't say where you're located.
A quick and cheap solution is to check the brake light switch above the brake pedal - it's notorious for failing and causing issues similar to those you describe.

Problem solved !!! It was all my fault, four days ago I changed a blown brake light bulb and mistakenly put in a single filament bulb instead of a stop/tailight bulb.
Put correct bulb in yesterday and all the problems dissapeared.
