Hi all,
Just wanted to ask you all your opinion on speed camera detectors and which you feel are the best on the market?

I always used to use Road Angel and found their products very reliable and accurate: http://www.road-angel.co.uk

I have dug out my old Road Angel Compact, and fitted at the base of the A pillar. It looks as if it blocks the speaker grille, but the holes aren't punched through in the corner, just in a central round area. Looks neat in real life, cable nicely concealed, with just enough slack to make disconnection and refitting not to bad. I think the styling of the Road Angel fits in nicely with the Audi interior.

Can't use these in France, They will take the car away from you, I once had to convince les flics that my tom tom didn't have alerts.

Or remove the equipment before you go. They don't mess about, no arguing, no leeway, just straight to jail!

In Ireland they have mobile speed cameras but the Guards (cops) helpfully post their locations on their website every morning. Smart eh?

That sounds like they are using as a deterrent as opposed to a cash cow. What a strange concept....

The speed vans are owned by a private company. The cops stand on overpasses and places where mad people have set the speed limit on a dual carriageway or motorway at 60KPH. That's the cash cow. How would you like to poke your shotgun into this barrel of mackerel officer?

If you have a TT, then a good place to visit is PocketGPworld.com. You need to pay to join, but then you can download fortnightly updates on all European speed camera locations as .OVL files - these include fixed, variable AND mobile/occasional cameras, as reported by members. he lad s PI's and you can set warnings for each type and speed.

I have a Pogo Alert+ V4

£50 for 15 months subscription if you order over the phone

Compare Pogo Alert+ vs Road Angel Gem+ all the main differences (http://www.pogostore.co.uk/alert-vs-gem-comparison.htm)

Does me fine and is nice and compact, love the 'average speed check' function that tells me my average speed between each camera (but think the RA does this too)

I use an app called Camsam, which has never let me down yet for fixed, variable or average speed cameras when in use. I have seen it miss a speed camera van though, so I reported the van to the app myself.

As it's not reliable for speed vans, maybe it's not what you're looking for, but brilliant for a free app imo. No purchase price, no updates to pay for, no extra boxes or cables on your dash - perfect for me.

The best thing these days is a GPS database of them... and I'd recommend the PocketGPSWorld one. You can then load the database into whatever device you want (Garmin etc), or they've got their own iPhone App.

On previous cars I imported the PocketGPSWorld database into the integrated SatNav as a set of POIs (Points of Interest), but I haven't found a way to do that with the Audi SatNav.

Tbh just used the Tom Tom speed camera app on way home and seems quite good. It's free so gonna try it for a couple of weeks before I go out and spend £££

This is what I have in the Z4M, first just the icons showed, then someone worked out how to get it to do warnings also. I could live with just the icons on the Audi, but its just the A3 from as far as I can see that you can upload multiple POI's from your own list with your own chosen icon. Snooper I think do a basic gps detector, circa £70 with lifetime updates which just has an audible warning. That would be a good set up if you could get multiple POI's to display.

Snooper s2. GPS and laser detector. Had it for 9 years free lifetime Updates.Very simple to use - just flashing lights and noise - go slower - go faster. Does average speed cameras as well.
Still update on Mac OSX using virtual windows Xp by usb no problems.
Bought updated Lynx Gt by snooper was **** in comparison - i don't want to read screen telling me what type of speed camera is coming up. i just need lights and noise saying slow down or go faster.

I thought the laser detector was now illegal?

The Snooper Neo S2 detects radar etc right?

Whippy53

It seems likely, if not probable that radar detectors will be made illegal in the not too distant future, best to stick with a GPS system which will remain legal (in the UK).

The UK government has stated on various occasions that they are looking at the situation, they escaped legislative banning this year but the writing is on the table. Even Halfords have stopped selling radar only detectors.:(

Hmm, two year old article. Anyhoo, doesn't really matter. I don't use one anyway so I wont need to snap anything off. LOL.
