I have a very slight and very very short lived rattle on cold start up.
Its only on cold start and lasts a second if that
It doesnt happen when its warm or continue for more than that second after a cold start
Are there any links on you tube that I can watch or lisetd to that demonstrate the timing chain rattle?
Im probably being paranoid..as itc ould just e a cold diesel engine on cold start..
Anyone got this noise or heard similar?

I seem to remember reading an Audi TSB that said this was normal on initial start up (provided it is for a short period - ie 1-2 seconds) - obviously if it continues for a longer duration then there is an underlying issue. I will see if I can find the Audi TSB details and post them up for you.

The TSB is in this thread link:- Timing chain noise 2.7 v6 tdi (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?97666-Timing-chain-noise-2-7-v6-tdi)
Regardless of heading the 2.7/3.0 are near identical and TSB was for both IIRC.
You will find posts by A8 tech in their stating why it would require attention and if it is that fault why it can't be ignored.
Costelles what year is your A6? has it been on long life servicing?
I may have video on my PC of chain rattle noise, will try to find. It's very distinct metal against metal clacking/slapping noise. It will sound over the normal cold Diesel engine noises.

Mystery solved...the noise is the cam followers after cold start...not a problem...diagnosed by a trusted engine expert
No noise from the tensioners/chains
Phew!
