Abs, esp and speedometer stopped working

Hi ppls

I've had this sudden issue of abs and esp lights coming on solid, and the speedometer has stopped working.. It was intermittent in the past whereby when it first reared its ugly head, after a few switch offs and switch ons, it disappeared and everything was back to normal. Then once it happened where it refused to disappear, I then decided to speed up and brake abruptly.. This appeared to sort the problem. Then after months of bliss, it started again. Sometimes while rollin, if i switch the car off and on, everything disappear and the speedometer starts working, but I can't find a set pattern. Whether I jump start while rollin or leave in neutrel, it just randomly sorts it self out, but it seems to be solid now.. Pls any help would be much appreciated as its driving me nuts!

Ps the braking abrupt don't seem to work now and sometimes random leaving it over night help but now it's persistent on making my life miserable!

Just a quick update, again after leaving it overnight, it was fine again this morning, with no lights glowing and the speedometer back in order. Even worked fine on switching it off and on again later in the day, then later in the evening, the troubles started again and wont go away... The car seems to wanna pull away suddenly and feels rough while driving with the esp and abs lights on. Summats definately not right here... HELP!

could well be your speedometre is on its way out. or also could be the speed sensor. i had this problem with speedo and i replaced the speed sensor which fixed the problem. the abs symbol coming on could mean its time for new pads if they havent been done. as for the esp light on could be somthing triggering it and the abs to show. get somone with vagcom/vcds to run a scan should tell you better.

Thanks for the reply. I've come to the assumption now that its definitely intermittent as there seems to be a pattern now. Ever since the issue started daily, after leaving it parked over night, the cars always fine again on 1st and 2nd start, then on the 3rd start, it lights up again with the drive being affect and no speedometer. Sometimes on 1st start after driving for over half an hour, it may suddenly light up during drive and speedometer stops working but all these are definitely connected as they all light up at once while the speedo stops responding at the same time. I guess I will have to have it scanned for the issues. I just hope the correct codes flag up. If there's any other suggestions, im all ears!
