S Line grille badge removal problem

2007 A6 3.0 TDI Le Mans

Trying to get the silver S Line grille badge off to swap it for a black one (to match black rings front and back). How the hell do you get the thing off?! I've removed the 3 x T30 bolts from the top of the grille so can get my arm behind the grille easily, but no idea how to detach the badge from the rear as it's impossible to see what's going on, even with some camera assistance. Any tips welcomed! (trying to avoid removal of the entire bumper/grille for what should be such a small task)

I'd thought the just clip-on, but perhaps as a factory fitment they have a retaining screw to prevent thievery?

Finally got the badge off. Had to wedge my phone/LED torch in between the grille and radiator in order to shed enough light on the situation. The badge doesn't have any detachable retaining clips on the back which is what I was led to believe would be there. Looking from the top, the two plastic bits that push through the grille, pass under two plastic retainers which are moulded in to the grille and then snap upwards, if that makes sense. In order to remove the badge, you simply have to apply enough downward pressure on the end of the plastic bits on the back of the badge which have snapped upwards in order that they can then pass the corresponding plastic bits on the grille. Now I've done it once, I could do it again in about 30 seconds (unlike my 2hr debacle this afternoon).

Anyhow, all badges removed/swapped for black. Fairly happy with the results although I reckon a black grille may finish it off nicely....oh, and then there's the window and boot chrome, but I'll save that for a later date, if at all.

Invalid attachment apparently

For the grill and chrome 'plastidip' seems to be the way to go

£18 for a matt finish and £37 if you want it gloss, although it will take some decent masking off to pprevent overspray...esp on the front grill.

My car's black so will first try matt, and then if not happy will overcoat with glossifier.

Have read about Plastidip but looks like a bit of a faff.

I think plastidip is fine if you just want to do the grill chrome, if however you want to do the grill itself you'd have to remove it to stop you spraying your radiator (which am sure would end in tears otherwise).

I'll be giving it a bash in the next few weeks and will post up some pics.
