Ballina Audi Mayo.. they could not do a software update for the power steering, and in the process of trying to they damaged my power steering rack, I will not use ballina Audi EVER AGAIN. Issaac agnew is the best to deal with portadown audi or Belfast.

Is the car under warranty? I'd ask them for a written report as to why you need an (expensive) steering rack. Is it leaking fluid? Are the control arms loose? Is it grinding? If it's Audi offering a software update you can go to any dealer, I'd recommend Agnew in Belfast

There has been mention of software updates in the forums. The reports weren't all good with guys reporting a lack of feel after the updates. Is the car driving ok? If so, I would be tempted to leave it alone unless they can come up with a good reason to update.
As above, I would be wanting good reason why a steering rack is required.

Thank you, I dealt with agnews and they are brilliant, I should have travelled up there to have it done. There was nothing wrong with the car at all. it drove perfect, the steering was perfect, I have the car fom new, no complaints with it at all..

I agree with you I should have left it alone, they said that there would be no issues with the update, that was the first thing I asked when I went to the garage..

You took it into the dealer, they diagnosed a faulty rack and will replace under the warranty. The jetta manual ain't a bad car (I know cos we've got one). To whitter on about small claims courts does nothing except to make you sound a tad naff to be honest. Sorry if that sounds heartless.

should they have provided me with a replacement a6, they had plenty in stock.
In the UK Audi promises a courtesy car as part of their Service Promise, not sure what they offer in Ireland. There is no expectation of "like for like" in terms of a loan car. I have been driving A6s for the past 15 years and in that time I have had anything from an A2 through to an A6. Look at it logically, have they kept you mobile - Yes; are they solving the fault under warranty - Yes; is there any evidence that the problem with the rack was caused by their incompetence or was it simply a coincidence that when they applied the software update the rack happened to fail - Only they can answer that. Cars are very complex things these days and unfortunately things go wrong. I appreciate it that it is irritating that you are without your car for a week but they have done everything they can to minimise the impact to you and it is probably that the only car they had available that they could let you have for an extended period was the Jetta and as others have said it is not such a bad car.

No they did not diagnose a faulty rack, they said that when they tried to update the software it wiped the original info clean and they could not put back the original setting and in the process they damaged my power steering rack, that is what they told me happened. the car was perfect when they got it from me.

I would have thought they damaged the module rather than the rack. Either way they'll have to make it right

Hi thanks for your reply, the car was perfect going in to them, they plugged in the machine to do the update it stopped downloading after ten minutes or so he then told me the update would not take and that they wiped the original information and they could not reprogram the info and they had to get a new power steering rack their fault I don't have to pay for it because it is their fault, and when I handed him the keys I asked if there were any problems with the updates, and he said definitely not. if i did not go into the garage that day my car would still be driving and be in my drive. all he had to say was he did not know if there was any issues with the update and i would have left there and then with my car. it was the garage who rang me to come in, as far as I was concerned my car was ok I did not contact them as I had no issues with my car.

They will always call if they have an update, the steering update has pretty much been done to death on this and other forums. It's annoying when things go wrong, but throwing you're toys out of the pram won't solve anything. Chill, enjoy the jetta and it will all be over soon.

No, the garage rang me and said there is a software update for your car under warranty and could I bring it in next Wednesday, I said yes, and when i went in I asked what was the update for, he said the power steering, I asked him if there were any problems with the updates he said "no" an hour and a half later I went in to see how it was taking so long, he said the update would not take and failed after 10 minutes or so, and in the process they wiped the original info and the rack needed to be replaced at their expense as they had done the damage to it, I don't understand how but that is what they told me. with regard to the jetta my point is this I paid €70,000.00 euro for my comfort in an a6 3 litre auto, with extras (we pay very high v.r.t. here) if I wanted a manual jetta I could have bought several at that price, they were not honest with me regarding the update, they further damaged my car and I should have been given an a6 replacement they had plenty a6's there, If I were to hire an a6 from them it costs €935.00 per week, a jetta from them costs €276.00, that is the difference to them, why should I be at a loss over there botch up.. If my licence only covered automatics they would have to give me one they have three large showrooms in Sligo, galway, and mayo and they have plenty of audi's. there are times when the customer is right, you are aware that some companys do try to ride roughshode over people if they can get away with it..

just repeating what they said to me, they are supposed to know what they are doing, mechanics is not my forte, nor do I profess it to be! you should elaborate more on your answer as to what they done to the rack, seeing you know your shizzle, stating its electric and one unit does not explain how they damaged the power steering rack? and I am only repeating what they told me, which may be lies I do not know. and don't trust them anyway.

Is this another power steering update? Or is this the one that everyone else had done ages ago and it's a slow dealer catching up?

This happened to me on Wednesday 10th September 2014, in Ireland, I did not hear of this update until the Thursday before which was the - 04-09-2014. when they booked me in for this update, I don't know if it is a late dealer catching up..
