Hi everyone

Got an Audi A4 today 54 plate. Came with one key which we presumed the battery had run out in because the fob didnt work. Got home and swapped out the battery. Still didnt work.

Had to go inside the car to get something so used the key to open the door manually and while inside, the alarm went off. I'm not entirely sure if I accidentally pressed one of the buttons on the key while in there but its very unlikely.

Tried closing the door and locking with the key, that didnt turn the alarm off. Eventually after about 10 minutes both the alarm and the flashing lights went off.

Now scared to do anything with the car because the alarm might go off again.

Is this a case of programming the key or is it something different?

Before the battery change using the key manually worked perfectly fine. I even tried putting the original battery back in but it made no change.

As you can see this is an urgent situation so please advise in any way you can, thanks.

First thiing you need to do is get a diagnostic scan, look here VWAF User Location Map - VCDS - Google Maps (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=209563024277134815192.0004c505be14b22419db e&msa=0&ll=56.231139,-2.779541&spn=3.493691,10.821533&iwloc=0004c505cfcb6158e0447&dg=feature) for a site member with VCDS that's close to you.

Well this is a bit embarassing lol

Had a read of the manual in regards to the alarm, it said that if you open the door using the actual key, you must start the car within 15 seconds or the alarm will go off. Turns out thats what happened lol so the key and alarm work properly I just need to pair it which I will do sometime later. Thanks anyway for the help :)
