hi, I'm sure you get loads of requests like this but i was wondering if any one could help as i have a bit of a weird problem

My window wipers wont work for about 5 to 10 mins after i start the car, then they work perfectly

Local garage has gone through diagnostics, no probs have shown up with the stalk, linkages etc, we even tried a new motor but same problem

As i say, after 5 to 10 mins they work perfectly, and its the identical scenario every time. I get nothing on any wipers and no mist, then it all comes to life and works perfectly till the cars turned off. If i leave the car for say twenty mins again the same thing happens

Its a 2002 petrol estate a4

thanks in advance for any help

Change your ignition switch and wiper stalk, they might be broken...

Have you taken the steering column cowling off & cleaned all the plugs/contacts with electrical contact cleaner? I had an issue with the indicator stalk (indicator would light up but not flash) on my wife's old B5 & a good clean with the aerosol solvent sorted it out.
As far as the wiper linkages go I had a problem with my B6 - the wipers gradually got slower & slower then became intermittent. Turned out to be corrosion of the linkages. Some parts are steel & others are aluminium (not an ideal mix). It's worthwhile taking them apart fully & cleaning them to remove all corrosion - if nothing else it rules this out.
Could there be a bad earth which would limit the current flowing & hence the motor would struggle?

Hi doc

Thanks for that, the motors not struggling, its just doesn't work at all for about 5 to 10 mins then works perfectly. The mister wont work either or the rear wiper then they all come on together and work perfectly. Maybe its some sort of software thing, thanks for your help anyway, I'll try the stalk cleaning thingy anyway

These are all fed from

J519

Onboard power supply control unit (Behind driver's storage compartment) I think this is in the foot well
there are also connectors in the A pillar left. This supplies the controls circuit's to the steering column control unit behind the stalks in steering cowl.
Check all plugs etc
