You need a diagnostic scan mate

welcome to the forum. could be one of many many things. first, you need a diagnostic scan. this will tell you why the abs light is on. look up the moderator, a6chris. he has a map with people on it who own vcds . there may be a local member who can help you out with a scan.

It's probably nothing much to worry about a 20.00 sensor is often the problem

OR you could stick some black insulating tape over the light, SORTED.

If youre going to keep the car you need your own scan tool. This would work well reading codes http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_VAGUSB.html or this VAG Scanner Engine ABS Airbag Diagnostic Scan Tool VW Seat Skoda Audi COM Reset | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAG-Scanner-Engine-ABS-Airbag-Diagnostic-Scan-Tool-VW-Seat-Skoda-Audi-COM-Reset-/281205178560?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item41792280c0) I had the full VCDS never really had to use it for anything complex, it's in Romania now probably keeping a goat tied up

very unliely to be the abs module. the early ones tend to be bullet proof. more likely just a sensor gone west.
i have just sorted a passat out. turns out the ring on the osf cv joint had been damaged by a previous ' professional' mechanic.

So at work today I had a bit free time took the front wheels off to check for any obvious signs and after following the wires I found this

The wires have been chopped so I'm hoping this fixes the problem does anyone know if you can buy the wire that goes to the abs senser and brake pad wear indercator ?

Solder them together and cover with shrink

I would but someone has cut the plug off that goes to the brake pad wear Indercator

Right so managed to fix all the cut wires I have a amber brake pad warning not sure about the abs light yet as I haven't drove the car I have cleaned off the abs senser as best as I could. See if it was dirty and not picking up as well as it should with it being intermittent iv just ordered a cable so I can get vcds and do a check see what it brings up

Well that didn't solve the problem this is what I'm getting on the dashboard

You need to clear the fault codes to turn off the ABS light, provided there's nothing wrong with the ABS it's very simple. Amber lights means you'd better think about changing your front pad soon. 2 different problems
lee.p.wood
31-08-2014, 06:32 PM
Yeah I guessed that but when I scan it with my snapon code reader it doesn't have any faults

Rotate the wheels, a little driving may put out the ABS light.

Tryed that only other thing as said further up in the thread is getting it scanned by vcds see if it brings anything up there because my snapon code reader doesn't always bring things up on certain cars
