View Full Version : Useful voice commands?

At the risk of being told to "Read the bl**dy manual", or use the online car 'Help' ... can't help feeling that there are useful voice commands that I'm just not using. Ones that are actually easier than pressing buttons.
What voice commands have others found useful?
In addition to the standard
'Call Joe Blogs, Private, Mobile, Business etc'
I find I use the following quite a lot
- Redial
- Map Scale 50 yards, 100 yards etc etc
- Play traffic report - which automatically replays the recorded radio traffic reports
All the media ones just seem more trouble than they are worth, quicker just to use the dial.
What do others find useful in the real world....

Being somewhat cynical when it comes to the quality of the voice control the most useful command, in my most humble opinion, is "Cancel" for when I accidentally hit the button!
Admittedly this may not be the response you were looking for!

lol, know what you mean. I live in Wales, and hearing it pronounce some of the Welsh place names certainly makes for fun journeys :-)
If you do the speech training thing though, I find it pretty good at recognising my voice!

When it does work I find the map ones quite useful, especially jumping between overview, destination and local views. Though for the life of me I can't remember the specific commands!

Hahaha, yeah I know what you mean!
Apart from those mentioned above, I find "next services" or "next hotel" etc quite good.

The funniest mispronunciation I've heard is when I was approaching Arras in France. It told me to head for somewhere anatomically impossible.

Stop route guidance or Cancel route guidance both work well

After constant frustrations with the BMW and Lexus systems, I haven't tried the Audi one once yet since I collected it!
I remember the test drive though... the salesman's cockney accent completely confused the system and it was only my voice that the car would understand :p.

If listening to an iPod, and on the iPod screen on the MMI, you can press the voice button and it will number the next 5 tracks on screen. Just say 1-5 and it will play that song.

If you store places you navigate to a lot as favourites with names like "Home" or "Work" you can say "Navigate to home" etc.

It doesn't have "take me to the pub". So I don't use it.

The A6 voice control is miles better than the A4 which was totally hopeless.
"Navigate to home address" is one I use.

Don't know if anyone can help me with this.... but I've a Samsung S4, and regardless of if I enter address as a HOME or WORK address on the phone, the 'Navigate to Joe Bloggs' command on the car always comes back as 'no address stored for that contact'
I have do to some funny trick to copy the address into a navigational address before the sat nav will use it.
What am I doing wrong and how can I get the car to use the addresses in my phone without messing about

You have to store it in the car sat nav. Somewhere in the MMI - favourites I think.
Edit - that is in reference to "Navigate to home address". Not sure about the samsung thing - works ok on the iphone.

Thought that may be the case, but seems odd given it can read the telephone numbers.
All my contacts are maintained in our work Exchange mail system and sync'd to my phone, including addresses. I want to be able to just get in the car and say... "Navigate to Joe Bloggs' in the same way I say 'Call Joe Bloggs' without having to copy them over to the MMI. But agree with you, this doesn't sound as if it is possible :(
