Well, when the story about faulty oil in the 7 speed DSG boxes hit the headlines last November my Sep 2010 1.6tdi Match was due for a annual service and I asked about the DSG recall. I’d have been better received if I’d been speaking Swahili……….they denied all knowledge and wanted to know where I’d been given and / or heard such tittle tattle?

I let it slide, had the service and nothing else.
Fast forward to March this year and 40k miles the VW website prompts me to book a ‘DSG’ oil service, duly booked in but the day before I get a call from the dealership, “your vehicle is sealed for life, as such we can’t do the DSG service”. Fair enough, I save £200.

Today I’ve received a recall notice from VW via the DVLA, ‘please book your vehicle in for a DSG oil change’, it’ll take, it seems, about 2 hours to change the oil…………………I do wonder if this whole DSG saga (might be too strong a word) could have been handled better.

Anyone one else been in for the ‘oil change’ on a ‘sealed for life’ box?

It is indeed 40k and very important to get it done. Swahili wouldn't have helped but maybe Chinese would - over there you get a 7 year warranty on DSG.

But if it is via the DVLA this looks like a recall so should be a freebie. If in doubt try another dealer.

BMW (ZF ) gearboxes. BMW say they are sealed for life, but when other manufactures fit the same box in their cars they state the oil should be changed at 60-80k.
lofe means 60k to car manufacturers, as that's when the warranty runs out.
im a service engineer, and on our equipment regular oil changes are a must.
Borg Warner designed and make the DSG boxes for VAG, I thought that in Australia and China they filled them with a synthetic oil which was causing magnetic problems so I believe. I thought they had rectified this in Europe by using a different oil

If you have any DSG problems, I know a way to get low cost repairs, but it might take a little longer than the main dealer.
