DIS right rear bulb failure warning

Hey guys.

Which is the right cluster, nearside or offside?

Got warning today for first time but all lights working. No condensation issues and drilled mine years ago so thinking to check for corrosion etc.

Is this likely to become a pita or need a new cluster?

Right hand side is the right hand side of the car (if it was driving forwards)

On closer inspection each cluster in mine has 3 tail lamp bulbs. On the offside 2 of them were not working. Took it apart, bulbs looked fine so cleaned up all contacts, again all looked fine. Power it on and 1 bulb good, next very dim, 3rd out. Popped out as didn't have right type available, bought a few replacements.

Changed, after a little fiddling, all working well now.

The VCDS scan output is very helpful. In all the fiddling and reset I notice it tells you what type of bulb (tail, stop, reversing) and in the case of tail the number. Learn something every day.

So all good now, pleased it's sorted.

As the bulbs get dimmer towards the end of their life, they will throw error messages up despite the fact they've not yet blown. These cars eat bulbs, don't they.
