Hi guys! Got a '00 Bora 1.9TDI 115 with a bit of a problem. On short journeys everything seems fine but after a few miles(sometimes up to 10) when travelling up through the revs there can be a slight but noticable lose of power for a couple of seconds. on other times the car seems to completly loose its turbo! i can get it back by switching the ignition off and on and away she goes! Ive looked into it a bit. One guy suggests changing the MAP sensor at the intercooler but another guy seems pretty sure im gona need a turbo.:( Any other poor souls had this problem?
Does the problem occur around 3000rpm under load?
Although it could be other things, it is most likely a worn MAF. (Mass AirFlow meter £45)
It is not likely to be a failing turbo, although many garages will still try and sell you one anyway.

I doubt it's the turbo if the problem is intermittant. Sounds like your going into limo mode due to under/overboosting problems. Check the hoses for perferations and also check that hose connections are tight.

try all the above suggestions before a new turbo is even considered, replacement of a turbo is a last resort, not least because of the expense involved in doing so.
if i were you , id also get the car fault read, any fault codes can help to reduce the wild goose chase of finding this fault.
check all Vac hoses, to and from the turbo, check the main big black intercooler pipe is clear of obstructions and is free of holes.
i doubt it's the MAF from what you've described, as the MAF alone does not cause the limp home mode which you describe, its more likely to be a boost/vac hose issue.:beerchug:
What turbo is on the car?
K04 or vnt15/GT17
KKK or Garrett?

Thanks alot for all the suggestions i must say my mind is a little more at ease!
My cous just had his turbo go on his mazda 6 It costs £850 new not fitted or £200 second hand. I know which i'd be having!:D
It is a funny one and can do different things at different times. I changed my MAP today (dont wory got it for a tener!) and took her for a good drive after.
unfortunately she still holds back with a shuddering going on somewhere between 2500 and 3000revs. being under load definately make the problem more noticable. she only knocked the turbo off once when i was only crusing along!
Well the first thing il do is have a look at my pipes.
Thanks again to all who took time to read and reply, uve been a great help!:beerchug:

I think the problem will only get worse again, this is exactly what happened with mine. I saw a nice document online that explains all the steps of troubleshooting, but you will need VAG software to test.
My guess is.. Sticky vanes.
Let me know if i need to locate that doc for you

Hi, new to the site, just wondering if it could be the same as my problem, check out my thread, it could be the melted plastic valve/solenoid which caused my turbo to be intermitent, sorry can't be more specific of its name (look at photo) but once it was changed the turbo didn't cut out any more, hope this helps barry,
