Hi,

My A6 has broken-down under warranty and was collected and taken to an Audi garage for repair. The garage is 2 hours from where I live and now that the repair has been completed Audi are saying it is up to me to collect the car straight away or they will charge me £50 a day for the hire car they have given me chargeable from the day after the repair was completed. I have a demanding job and a two year old to look and can't just drop everything to make a four hour round trip

1) I would think it is up to Audi to get the car back to me - it failed under warranty?
2) I was never told it is up to me to get the car;

Audi UK and the dealer just keep passing the buck between each other, whilst now have a £180 bill for the hire car and can't collect for another two days! HELP!!!!

If they collected, it should be up to them to return. Have you spoken to the dealer principle?

What paperwork did they leave you with and what does it say on it? If they cant show you where you have agreed to it, then they should be returning your car. Plus, if they had any faith in their repair work, they would be willing to drive it the two hours to return it.

The cynic in me would think that they arent overly confident the problem is fixed, so dont want to risk the embarrasment of the car conking out on them on the way to you...

This is it - Audi Assist arranged for the AA to come and get it, so I signed the AA paperwork, other than that I've not signed or seen any documents. I've read the Audi Assist and Warranty T&C's and it didn't mention anything. They even didn't tell me when I was on the phone asking about how the repair was going, the first I knew was when it was repaired! SHOCKING

I travel all over the UK so imagine it brokedown in Scotland (700 miles from home)!

Ah right so the AA recovered it to the nearest dealer. I imagine then it may be the case that you have to collect it. Have you tried Audi Assist again to see what they have to say when you explain the situation?

I'm sure the Assist documents say they will provide a car for 2 days. When my Disco 3 broke down LR arranged a hire car. I explained I was due to leave on business the following day and would be away all week. "No problem, keep the hire car until you are back" was the reply. So I ended up racking up about 800 miles in a not to unpleasant Insignia.

It is Sinclair Swansea - the car they gave me is a Skoda as no other car available! It was only because I read the T&C's of Audi Assist that I saw the 48hr policy and asked if I would be charged, if I hadn't asked then I still wouldn't know this.

The AA (on behalf of Audi) didn't take it to my nearest dealer but to the biggest dealer, if I had known I was having to pick it up I would have made sure it was the nearest!

Audi Customer service should have rung last night but still no phone call!

Personal experiences of the Sinclair group in south west wales aren't good. I've found the only way to get anything done with them is to be firm and tell them what is happening.

Tell them your situation with your job and child, tell them you havnt signed anything to say you are liable to collect your car, tell them it failed under warranty and the AA dropped your car where they did and you had no say in the matter, tell them you want your car back ASAP and tell them to poke their £50 a day charge.

Send all of that in a polite but firm email and cc Audi UK and it should all turn out ok.

and also say how upset you are driving a skoda when clearly you should have been given an equivalent vehicle. (nothing against skoda's, they are great, but they are not an audi).

Well after firm emails and conversations to Audi UK and Swansea, it got resolved and my car was delivered back this evening! Audi UK admitted that there is no written policy within their documentation (T&C's) and that their breakdown assistance process doesn't make any reference to collection as being the owners responsibility.

So Audi UK have promised to make this all clear!!!!

... and we wait with baited breath to see what "they will make clear" in the policy, the pessimistic side of me (well, more than just a side), is itching.
