Hi, I have a 2007 Passat 2.0 Tdi Estate and am trying to locate the fuel pump, does anyone know if this is accessed from inside the car or if the tank has to be removed? I suspect it is under the boot floor however that does not appear to be a straight forward lift out.

Not sure about the estate but in the saloon the tank lift pump is accessed by removing the rear seat base and there's a round black seal that you remove to access the pump on the rear drivers side (uk right hand side). The passat also has a tandem pump in the engine bay which pumps both oil and fuel I believe. If you can hear a buzzing or whirring noise in the car then it's most likely the lift pump in the fuel tank.
It's a fairly straight forward job if you know how to use basic tools you can search on here or online and you'll see how easy it is. Glad I didn't pay the VW price they quoted me to do mine. A big word of caution - DONT REMOVE THE SEAL UNLESS YOU HAVE LESS THAN HALF A TANK OF FUEL or you'll end up with fuel in the car.

Why, what is the problem. You should be able to just hear the pump when you turn the ignition on for 2 seconds and it noes not start again until cranking and engine running. Regards Peter
