the brake pad warning light keeps coming on (was intermittent at first) on my B5 1.8 20v SE estate, the front pads are fine, not long replaced.

Am i correct in saying that when the pads are worn enough they allow contact to the wires and thus complete the circuit to earth which brings the light on on the dash?

thanks
Ben

other way round it cuts the wires and thus breaks the circuit

thanks crackpotterpig. so if i want to bypass it i need to connect the two wires going to each brake pad together?

yea its what i have done with mine near where they plug into the loom just connect the wires together in a loop, they are unreliable anyhow

tried it but no joy, it can't be reset by plugging in my autel vagcom either. i assume there is a leak to earth elsewhere.

any ideas?

when I had this issue , I unplugged the sensors at the joint , gave both sides a good clean with wd40 spray , I clipped the wires at the brake pad side of the joint , and spliced them together . if you not too bothered about ever plugging the sensors in , join the wires above the joint on the strut leg.

if this issue wasn't there before you changed the pads , id imagine its just a dirty or broken connection now ...

I had this and even cleaning the connections the light came on intermittently, so I've coded out the warning with VCDS.

I have the same problem with my A8 2004.
How would I access the sockets to clean?

I am also getting intermittent brake pad warnings on my Passat, I've been told cutting the above mentioned wires can affect the ABS is this correct?
