As above car went in to the garage and has had all the parts fitted to my 2005 a4 1.8t auto which were

Multi function steering wheel with paddle shift (from A8 2005)
cruise control with correct module (midline module)
New airbag loom. (4f0-971-589-k)

the cruise works perfectly and all has been coded in correctly.

however the buttons on the wheel none of them work atall and not giving a reading to the vcds tool?
same for the paddle shifts no response on the tool and again don't work.

it all lights up however when the ignition is turned on so must be getting power to it?

just a bit annoyed as a lot of time spent researching and sourcing parts aswell as money has been invested in this mini project and seems to be to no success :(

I'm stuck now as to what could be the issue, the wheel was from an A8 2005 so not sure if this was a issue? I did notice the small plug from the wheel had 3 wires and the one going to it from the airbag loom had 5 wires so possibly this may be the issue?. Or if it could be a faulty module just weird how it all lights up?

Would be great if anyone can help out or has had these same issues as really want it to work :(

thanks blake

Whats your steering ecu coding?

I thought midline control units only supported cruise and trip computer?

I used this as a reference and if is correct then should be ok Cruise Control Retrofitting (8E) - Ross-Tech Wiki (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Cruise_Control_Retrofitting_(8E))

as for the codeing do you mean the one he entered I double checked with him and all was correct ie changed for my buttons and the paddles aswell as cruise

Will try and have a look in a second as he did it when there, do you know if the a8 wheels are ok? And how come there is a 5 wire connector going to a 3?

code was 02141

Did he change anything in the radio control module?

there is an option to enable multifunction.

Pass, I seen him enter the code I said is that in a different side of things? So you can't just enable the wheel useing the code I said as one of the options is to say what wheel is fitted.

i also have rnse if that makes any difference atall?

You still need to tell the RNSE there is a MFSW fitted, looking at the site on Rosstech ( Audi Radio/Navigation System (RNS-E) - Ross-Tech Wiki (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Audi_Radio/Navigation_System_%28RNS-E%29#Coding) ) you need to add 4 to the the last digit in the coding string to tell the headunit there is a MFSW fitted.

Will ring and ask in the morning, would this also stop the paddles?

just rang he's off now till Friday although I did supply him the below document of which he has made notes on, so guessing he used it which has the rnse code details so pretty sure he has done it,

http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?17374-How-to-Fit-and-activate-Muti-Function-Steering-Wheel-(MFSW)-and-Cruise-Control

wondering if midline module supports both or just one feature at a time, reading around it seems most have 3 wires so pretty sure my wheel is fine

Also noticed that the wheel lights up with ignition on rather than when lights are on is that normal?

Just fitted another wheel from an audi a4 2006 this time. Again no buttons working so that rules out the wheel.

i did notice fault code 01426-049 (tel:01426-049) in the wheel ecu?

anyone know what that code is or shed any light on this?

swaying towards a dogey slip ring? Also seen a few mention on other model Audis say that a fuse can be the issue?. Where is it to check or is it different on the a4

Cheers had a look at that, I'm thinking slip ring because

tried two wheels both same so hopefully ruled that out
wiring loom was brand new from audi so again that should be good
the module was from a local breakers who assures me it worked all okay plus my cruise works okay with it

so it leaves me with the second hand slip ring I bought which I'm guessing could be the cause?.

the only fuse I can see is two on the inside side under the cover, think one was multfunction/telephone and the other being wheel or something along those lines.

any one thinking the same?

My 2002 A6 has tiptronic but not the steering wheel paddles.

Should I change the steering wheel for one with paddles?

And

Does the paddles work at all times or only when the gearstick is in tip mode?
