Hi,
To cut a long story short, I may need to replace the seat side airbag in the passenger seat of my girlfriends A4 Cabrio (B6 2.5TDi that we bought recently - an otherwise fantastic car).
The airbag light was on so to avoid it failing the MOT she had a local VW Audi specialist fix the wiring under the seat as seems to be the universally recommended fix and reset it (I believe he was using VCDS as he gave her a print out from Ross-tech but who knows). This didn't fix the fault and the airbag light remained on - and he recommends replacing the seat mounted airbag. I still have my suspicions that it is a wiring fault given the overwhelming number of recommendations from this forum and elsewhere, but am looking into options.
My questions:
- How difficult is it to replace this airbag unit? - in the photos of the item in the ebay link below, it seems fairly simple (taking usual airbag precautions) and appears to be mounted by two bolts so it just seems a case of accessing the two nuts that hold it to the seat - anyone ever done this? I would presume you take off the seat back panel and go from there but any advice would be much appreciated!!

- Will a B6 saloon front passenger seat fit in a cabrio? She needs the car to pass its MOT sharpish in order to tax it (expires end of the month) so I may temporarily install a different seat (with a known good airbag) to clear the light and get it passed. As it's a cabrio, and the front passenger seat out of a B6 saloon is much cheaper (doesn't matter that it doesn't tilt), I want to make sure it will fit and the airbag will connect up before going ahead with this plan.
- On the Ross-tech print out he's given her, it states that clearing the airbag codes at this point could cause them to go off - can anyone enlighten me as to why this might be the case? Seems a bit of an extreme reaction to clearing a code!
Finally, are there any kind souls around the Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire area that have a VCDS and might be so kind as to let us use to reset the light? I was planning on buying one of the cables to use with the 'lite' version but have read mixed reports of whether they work etc.
All advice appreciated!
Cheers,
Matt
