Hello, I have wanted an a4 s-line for about two years now.. I have saved up £5500 and I am now searching - however, I am becoming concerned about the reliability of modern audi's. Are my concerns justified?

I am looking at 2006 2.0tdi, FSH, timing belt recently done etc..... but will this engine have oil pump issues?

what else goes wrong on them?

cheers ian

Your concerns could well be justified, good that you are doing your research first.

Oil pump issues yes but when they're fixed they're a good going car. I drove a 140 BRE which just had the conversion done last week and it pulled very well.

How do we know which cars have had to oil pump done? Was it specific to certain engine numbers?

Do the 170bhp models have the oil pump issue?

I imagine a way to tell if the pump has been done is to check the history? It would be a big selling point so would make sense to keep proof of it being done when coming to sell the car..

I think both the 140 and 170 had the issue, depends on when it was made. There are a few posts by Crasher on the forum where he lists the chassis number where the issue was (sorta) fixed.

Depends on who done the job, if Audi fixed it then they'll have a record, anyone else you'll have to dig.

when I was in the market for an A4 I was determined to have a B7, it was so much better looking than the B6. I was advised on this forum by knowledgable individuals to go for the B6 1.9. I ignored that and lived to regret it.

A B6 1.9 TDI 130 is an awesome engine, bulletproof and does mega miles. It is also available in the B6 in avant Quattro sport form. What's not to like!

i got in a taxi recently, a passat with that engine. It was reading 500k miles and the owner loved it.

I owned by A4 2.0TDI for 5 years. None of the 2.0TDI are a match for the pre-2005 1.9 in my view.

I've just made a thread about looking for a 2.0tdi B7 before seeing this thread. I'm unaware of any common faults with the B7 tdi engine but my old passat had the 1.9tdi pd130 that's the same as the B6 A4 and I have to agree with everyone else that it is bulletproof. I had mine from 17k miles and I sold it at 230k. It never missed a beat with just regular servicing and I had it remapped by REVO.
