Dont shoot me down I have searched but have some questions please....

Going to Brittany in July in my 2006 Allroad, it has bi xenon lamps and have read many threads about glueing on deflectors and/or changing direction through MMI, mine hasnt got an option in car settings/exterior lights so first question.....

1. Is it a main DEALER change or should i risk stickers (heat of lamps) or is there a lever i can adjust?
2. Some confusion over breathalisers, do i need one (or is it two) or not?

Will take Hi Viz vests in the car

So that leaves spare bulbs, do i really need them?

Any other advice welcome about driving in Brittany welcome, its my first time abroad eek!!

Thanks all

Matt

There should be a lever on the top of the headlamp or enable tourist mode with vcds.

Do a google for French regulations, the AA have a page.

Chris has got you covered, however the word you're looking for is Dealership ;)

You need two in case you're asked to produce and use one. They must also bear the French NF certification mark.

Spare bulbs should be taken, whether you need them or not it's a good idea to have some spares, same for a first aid kit, it isn't required but it's recommended.

You must take your V5 and an original certificate of insurance (check you're insured for driving in Europe too.)

You must have a GB sticker on the car (or plate) and you must carry a warning triangle.

If you have satnav you must not have marked positions of speed cameras. Radar detectors are also forbidden.

As for tips, don't annoy the Gendarmes they have guns, don't speed they have tolls and practice a few roundabouts before you leave the docks ;)

My 2007 car with xenons has no such lever (to my knowledge).

The beam benders are fine and the glue does come off with neat screenwash and a soft cloth. No scrubbing required. I've used them many many times.

Search beam benders on Amazon and get them delivered for £4. The ones you'll get will have a fitting guide specifying the C6 with xenon s. Dead easy.

I'd get the tourist mode enabled via VCDS. Far easier to switch it when you get on and off the ferry

Just get them done with VCDS at your leisure as you don't go for two months.
Once you get them set to tourist mode, they are suitable for RHD and LHD as the beam pattern becomes symmetric.
The levers are not on bi-xenon MY2006.

Thank you all for your help, i will search a local VCDS kind person who can help and have them changed permenantly if as you say (snapdragon) its fine to do so.

You will get an annoying beep on the dash though until they're changed back to non-tourist. Nothing to worry about though.

The beep is only on start up for a few seconds and they are only in tourist mode until you change it back on the MMI.

I've got the same year Allroad with the same lights. At least I think they are as my car came standard with the LED rear lights. I'm also ofto Fance a the end of June. I have missed all this about a "Tourist Mode" on the headlights. Presumably hen actiated, does it create a menu choice on the MMI car systems menu?

I've used the tourist mode a few times now, reset on return to stop the beep. One thing to add here is to put the ross-tech article on this and what it does through google translate and print it off. Then if you do get stopped you have something to show you have set it. Never had an issue in many many years in France but you never know. I guess they would be looking for the headlamp deflectors so having something in French explaining tourist mode could well help! Also don't forget the reflective jackets (stored inside car), warning triangle and alcohol detectors x 2 with NF stamp on them.

Is there any mechanical adjustment required on the headlamps or is it all done using VCDS?

On mine it's done via VCDS, I have 2005 with adaptive bi-xenons so not sure about other models.
