I have a 2010 highline plus that came with only one key. I asked an auto-locksmith who was working in our street if he could make me a spare key. He seemed confident that this was no problem and quickly identified the key and had a new one with him. He then spent ages with his computer and various devices which connected and showed all sorts of info but would not give up the needed pin code. All the passat models and years were listed except for 2010 - has anyone else had this problem? Can it be done with VCDS? Can anyone in North London help? I ended up giving him £50 for the new key. I also emailed vw to ask if they kept the pin code, but they just said go to a main dealer.

What engine do you have? I know a couple of people who will be able to do it.
Vw won't be able to program the key you have as it won't contain and component security that will be required.

The VW security system for Immobilsor 4 (IMMO 4) systems as found on Golf Mk5, Passat B5 onwards, etc) supply two key fobs that come part coded from the factory.
When you go to the dealer with all your details, it's so the dealer can be sure you are the legal owner of that particular vehicle.
It's £136 inc. VAT for an additional or replacement key fob from main dealer parts department
The parts guy just orders the key from your chassis number, the order is sent to Germany and they part code a blank immobilsor chip to your chassis security details held in the German database. They also cut a physical key, known as the valet key, and attach it to the fob.
The fob can take up to five days to arrive at the dealer in the UK.
You then take your car into the dealership, its hooked up to their diagnostic machine and then the pairing of the key you ordered can begin. The techie logs into the car, then starts a key coding process. Techie enters their personal login details and the machine does the rest: it matches the part-coded key to the details that are stored on the database and then codes it to the vehicle system.
There is no way independents or mobile security companies can code the key to the car's new, blank, or old keys from another vehicle.
But there are two firms claiming to offer such services:
£110 coded while you wait in Leeds
2005 2010 VW PASSAT 3 BUTTON REMOTE SMART KEY PROGRAMMED WHILE YOU WAIT | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-2010-VW-PASSAT-3-BUTTON-REMOTE-SMART-KEY-PROGRAMMED-WHILE-YOU-WAIT-/121056682244?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Safety_Security&hash=item1c2f8a6104)
£175 for same thing in Kent
Volkswagen VW Passat B6 CC Key Fob Smart Key Remote Programmed to Your Car | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volkswagen-VW-Passat-B6-CC-Key-Fob-Smart-Key-Remote-Programmed-to-Your-Car-/130909522702?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e7ad0cb0e)
This £50 blank you bought in the street: does it have a valet key? Press the button in the third indent down on the left hand side of the fob to release (buttons facing you)

Mostly correct information apart from
This bit.
I have already done a Passat b7 2011 1.6tdi smart key today
If you have the right equipment anything is possible ;)

Well, old keys already programed, for sale on eBait are useless. (unless you change the PROMs over from a valid but not working key ;-) Do you cut the valet bit too?
I did add the caveat that other firms are claiming to do this. Please PM me your details or URL so I can add to my help sheet here. Occasionally come up to 'ull -- don't want to be caught out :yikes:

Thanks for all that info... you are right that my £50 key does not have the valet key, however the car came with two valet keys and one remote so not a problem.

A question related in some way to this. If your electronic fob loses synch with the car (mine did a while ago) can it be resynched without going to the dealer? Car is Passat Highline 140 TDi Sept 2009. And why would it lose it's synch?
