For years I got fed up with not being able to leave my phone charging in my UK 2006 Passat TDi. Finally inspiration! I could just jumper the power over in the fuse box using a wire and in-line fuse. It works!
This is a view inside the right-side fuse panel. It's on the end of the dash, accessible with the door open. If your model isn't the same, stop here!
The parts come from Halfords: basically a pack of spade connectors, an in-line fuse holder, and a 15A fuse. Fit the spade connectors to the fuse holder wire ends, as shown in the second picture. Remove the 15A fuse for the dc outlets, and plug the cable into the lower hole, shown at the bottom of the picture. Then plug the other end of the lead in the always-on power next to the green 30A fuse. Job done! This powers both cabin sockets. (Of course there's the usual disclaimers about warranties and cars catching fire etc. etc.)
