Could you post a pic? Are you talking about the actual speedo or the dis?

Odd, you'll need a new cluster.

How have you only noticed now?

I don't think your speedo display being Km's will be an issue for you. Unless there's been a change recently, I don't believe that it's something that is part of the MOT test.

I have a motorhome with a Km speedo that I imported new in 2002 from Germany and it has passed 10 consecutive MOT tests without the speedo ever being mentioned. The official test data even lists the odometer in Km's.

Construction & Use Regs 'may' require a MPH speedo display (I have seen this argued over on motorhome forums) but that is not an issue that will trouble the tester I believe.

In NI in order to pass the MOT it needs both MPH and KPH.

AHH! Hadn't spotted that his location was Belfast and I am unaware of any regional variation on the MOT Test if there is any. I believe that all UK registered vehicles must have MPH and KPH on the speedo to be lawful, strictly speaking but that this is not part of the MOT test, on the mainland at least. In any case, MOT testers can be a bit of a law unto themselves interpretation-wise.
The OP hasn't been back to say how he resolved this matter but it would be of passing interest if he did. I'm a little puzzled as to how he has a B6 with a speedo that only displays MPH unless it is a direct import from mainland Europe perhaps. Maybe he was talking about the digital Odometer after all?? Hopefully, he'll come back.

I can only guess the car might've been a Southern Ireland import and be clocks not changed to UK as the southern cars come with KM only or the original clocks have failed and have been replaced with a KM version ... Who knows!

not to sure if yous fellas have picked my post up wrong. but the dial with the numbers on it and the main display is in MPH. with the KPH on the inner. my problem is when driving the needles on the clock are off. for example when now listen carefully. when driving the needle is at 40 mph allegedly its actually 40 kmh. cause the main outer numbers on the dial say 40 mph. ive had a fella of another car forum tell me this problem can be switched back using vag com. he tells me if somone has had the car on vag com and they dont know wat there doing that this problem can occur. he also tells me he can change this bak in no matter or 5 mins.

But how do you know the speedo is actually off? Have you had your speed measured by GPS or even another car driving along side both going at the same speed?

Vcds won't adjust the needle, not sure where the fella got that idea from. Only speed related thing through the instrument cluster you can do is adjust the digital speedo (from mph to kph if fitted).

update. ok so had a fella run vagcom threw car. after some time hes got to the bottom of the problem. the speedo cluster has been changed by the previous owner who we now know has actually tried to clock the car. but has failed to do so idiot. and has then went an got another set of clocks / cluster / speedo. but has actually put clocks of a petrol A4 instead of clocks from a diesel. which when explained to me made sense. also when vagcom was run it only picked up part of the vin number. its also been changed but not reprogrammed properly. but at least now i no wat ive to get to sort the problem out. 2nd hand clocks from a diesel and ecu from the same car. hope if anyone comes across the same problem this helps
