I will most probably buy one next year, looking for a specific car though and seems not many about unless you know different. I want a 2000-2004 A6 diesel 130 1.9ltr car but in white. Did they do these in white in that year? i have been looking for a while and have seen saloons but no avants.
I think the 130 1.9 is about the most reliable of the Diesels and easy to tune up a bit. Any suggestions what to look for on these and are they indeed the better car to get being simpler than a 2.5 or a trip box etc. If anyone has a nice well cared for A6 avant in white and thinking of selling her next year please let me know.
Thanks
Ron.

My current AUDI ( not a daily driver) is a 80 Avant 2.6 V6 with 140k on her last owner before me was the original owner and the car has all audi full service stamps and is in 100% imacculate condition, thirsty but stunning to drive. i love it!

I've seen some in white, but it isn't very common (I don't think it was a popular colour in those years). Silver, dark blue and metallic grey are by far the most popular.

You're right about the 1.9tdi 130. The 2.5 is often regarded as a money pit, and the multitronic gearbox is also not highly regarded.

Bits to look for - have a look in the A6 C5 section here (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?327-Audi-A6-C5-Forum-1998-2004).
In addition to the usual things you'd look at on any car, I'd say the usual suspects are:
Plenum chamber drains and water under the floor (where the CCM module lives)
Rust bubbles in the roof gutters
Rusty front wheel arches
