Hi,
Just got myself a lovely 99 A6 Quattro 2.8 and am absolutley delighted, it's a lovely clean car but obvioulsy with it being a 15 year old car there are a couple of niggles I would like to get sorted so it is as good as it can be.

The car drives great but unfortunately I can't use the tiptronic feature. When I am in DRIVE everything works as it should and I can move down the gears by shifting down manually, however when the stick is in the D position it just slops freely left to right into the tiptronic gate (it will even fall over into the position of I turn hard on it's own), it doesn't take it out of gear and the car carries on driving as usual but it also won't engage the tiptronic when I try to pull it into position.

I took the console apart following the guide about the magents coming off but the slopping doesn't seem to be an issue in those articles so I think it must be a carrier or a fixing that has come loose, also the small plastic discs that cover the hole and move with the stick as it goes left to right are cracked and broken so don't work (don't know if they are part of the system but they just look decorative to me).

Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated, no doubt I will be here regularly as it is getting on a bit, but it is a lovely car and looks about 8-9 years younger than it is and I want to get the best I can from it.

Thanks

Mark
