Hello, I think I've tried everything now and my remote key fobs will not lock/unlock the car.

Here's what happened, one of the remotes seemed to need anew battery, I was needing to stand closer and closer to the car to unlock it, but I still worked.

My first mistake was to change both the batteries at the same time.
As soon as I'd changed the batteries neither remote worked.
I've tried everything to re-sync them starting with the procedure in the hand book and then various things I've found on the web.

I got used to opening the door with the key and left it at that for 6 months or so.
I'm now trying to get it sorted so took it to a auto locksmith he said the key needed to be re-programed which he tried to do but it didn't work.
He said it needed to with more sophisticated equipment.

I finally took it to the Audi dealership and after an hour or so they couldn't do it either.
They don't seem to know why and suggested I buy a new key, at +£300, and see if that works.

All was working fine until I changed the batteries, anyone had a similar problem?

Thanks

I had the exact same issue on my old B7 2005. I actually part ex`d the car at a Dealer so didnt get to the root of the problem. I read somewhere that this is an issue on B7 models. I think it may have been on Ross Tech web site. I don`t think you have a remote key problem though. I think its more of a case of a Convenience module fault. Probably worth a trawl on the `net to check.

Hello
My key fobs do this every time I disconnect the battery for any length of time;
1. Lock car with key blade, drivers door and wait 3 minutes approx. (not sure if necessary really)
1. Unlock the car using key blade (drivers door)
2. enter vehicle and insert key in to ignition and switch on (all within 15 seconds of unlocking door)
3. Press remote lock button - does it work?

Their is a small transponder in the plastic housing of the key fob, which disables the immobiliser. This has to be put in any replacement key fob you purchase, unless you buy from Audi and they charge you to re-program new key fob.
I did this with a replacement key fob purchased from eBay with our old Audi A4.

Thanks for the tip but sadly no luck with either key.
Maybe an Ebay key fob might be the answer I'll look out for the transponder.

Many thanks.

It seems to be a fault with the keys on the b7 I have heard leaving the battery out of the key fob for a few days can sort them, other than that it's a new key.

quick question, some help needed. Both my key fobs stopped working, Audi had no idea what was wrong, took it to independent garage who said common fault and both keys go. So, i have now bought brand new key fob from Audi.

The key fob needs programming, Audi want £70 for this.

Is there i can do this myself with sync method or does this need to be done via vagcom?

This is odd. Key fobs surely use a set frequency right? Why are they becoming un-programmed to the car? It must be the car that is changing the frequency or put it another way refusing to accept the frequency offered to it by the remote.
Me thinks it is the central locking relay or some such similar component is at fault and not the key fobs. Are you able to pair YOUR OLD key fobs with another car, if you can prove the key fobs are ok you can sell them and at least recoup so money spent.
