Can anyone recommend a garage in Essex or nearby where I can have a full oil flush and replacement? A drain and filter change I would do myself, but I'm after a full oil change.

I'd also like to know this as the place I usually use wants way to much for my liking.
I have a specialist which I have not used yet local to my new house in colchester, I'll ask there for a price

Depends where in Essex.
I've been to VWAudiTec in Chelmsford a few times now. Labour rate about 60% of dealer's and good service.
I asked John Austin in Marks Tey (VAG specialists) and they use a place in Mersea for all of their gearbox stuff (google Mersea gearbox).

Good call - spoke with them today. Very obviously know what they are doing, spent time talking things through with me, and their labour charge is very reasonable. Made a booking for a couple of weeks time.

I think it depends on what model gearbox you have. This influences the spec of oil and the volume. I have found that mine is a KJC that requires the most expensive oil. Ill PM you the costs.

Thats exactly what my tuner said when I asked them, shortly before I said no thanks.

This is what my tuner quotes
· Oil – 9 x £28.36 + vat
· Strainer - £35.06 +
· Gasket - £34.43 + vat
· Seal - £1.94 + vat
· Labour - £180-£240 + vat
They said not done one before so not sure on time. Also what type of oil can cost that much? What grade is it, pure liquid gold!

Yes, those prices are correct except the gearbox capacity is 9L and only a max of 7L will be replaced when you consider some is priming valves ect. The big difference in the quote I have is labour - less than £40. So less than £300 all in.
I will ill say that I spent sometime chatting this through with the technician. He started by informing me of the debate on the tip boxes being sealed for life, so wasn't trying to push me in to the task. I'm feeling really happy about the service, the cost and the garage (given the recommendation was made on here).

Hi all, an update......
chaps at VWAudiTec were very accomodating of my need for explanation, and wanted to ensure i knew the box is supposed to be a sealed for life unit. The service was seamless and i would wholly recommend them again.
I have owned the car for about 5 weeks, my first non-manual and to be honest i had been thinking i had made a mistake. Too often i found i was in the wrong gear or at times, no gear at all!
Post-service, well its a transformation. It is sharp, changes gear silky smoothly and is always in the right gear.
My car is at 100k. The idea of this being a sealed for life box is in my view nonsense.
If in doubt, in my view, do it.
Cost? gear oil, strainer, gasket, engine oil, engine filter, labour = £480. Im happy with that!

I also have the 3.0L tip and find that sometimes between overrun and picking up again it can feel a bit jerky, did yours do this pre oil change and if so is it better now?
Thanks
