Hi. I currently have a 2002 a4 1.9 tdi with 140k. I need a estate and am thinking of a 140bhp a4 to remap as I have been told the 140 is a better engine than the 170 or a 2.7 tdi. I do about 50 miles a day to work and back. I have around 8.5k to spend. Question is
Which should I get.
Is a lower miles 140 going to be better than a higher mileage 2.7
Should I spend 8.5k on a 100k 2.7 but around 2007 model or around 5k on a older 2.7 ?
Thank you.

Get a B7 1.9 and remap it.
The 2.0 engines have issues with oil pumps and balance shafts and are expensive to repair.
THhe V6 diesels are problematic too and cost more to repair if they go wrong.
Stick with the 1.9, uber reliable.

Thanks for the reply. If I did go for a older 1.9 what would the best top one be? 150bhp s line?
Is there no 2.7 with the issues sorted?

There were different power versions of the 1.9 but not sure which ones made into the B7.
No 2.7 or 3.0 had the problems permanently sorted, some cars which were on longlife servicing have timing chain issues at around 100k which is major surgery to replace them at a great cost.
What's your budget? You might be able to get a Seat Exeo estate with the more reliable common rail 2.0 engine.

Up to 8.5 / 9 but that would have to be something good. Looking for a decent spec nice looking diesel with a bit of poke.

Thanks I'll have a look. Looks nice. I have just seen a valve v70 2.4 which seems a lot of car for the money. Just not as sporty looking.

Don't buy the Volvo, buy the VAG!
I too considered an Exeo, there's a 2010 Seat in Leicester with 12k less miles than the 58 plate 2009 A4 I just got, it was a close call
