Hello everyone.
Just wondered what file size people are using when listening to music from SD cards, at present I convert my music to 320kbps but I can't get all my music on. Is there a big difference in sound quality if I convert to 256kbps or lower?

Regards
Peter

What device are you using to use the SD card on 2G?

Hi Chris. I am using 2 x 32Gb SD cards in the two SD slots in the glove box of my car.

So 3G then ;)

What size of card are you using? Remember you can use SDHC in yours.

This is a great question, with often convoluted answers. I think the issue of sound quality can often become one of diminishing returns, above a certain point, but there are some primary

if you're comparing a literal CD to a compressed file (as opposed to a wav or lossless rip), you don't have a level playing field, because your compressed file and CD are probably not taking the same path to your speakers or headphones (e.g. different connections, dac's, amps or preamps, wiring etc.).

The biggest variables in general though are the contexts for listening, which basically means A) the ears of the listener, and B) the actual environment used for listening (which includes the room acoustics, equipment (speakers, headphones, amps), and speaker / headphone placement).

So for most normal listening environments (e.g. people with normal ears listening to average or reasonably good --consumer-- speakers) I think it's virtually impossible to tell the difference between anything above 256, in a car you probably have no chance. You could make the files smaller, get more on the cards.

Just for any future questions you may have you're running 3G, not 2G.

It's been shown that upto 64gb cards have worked fine, so either upgrade the card, fit AMI or cut your music collection down ;)
