audi a4 2.0 tdi

hi i've had 58 plate a4 2.0 tdi cab for nearly a year now with just 56k when driving to work last friday the oil low pressure light came on red,l pulled straight over onto the hard shoulder called out the tow truck, put into a garage to check it out and was kindly informed the engine was ********, is this common?:zx11:

The garage might not want to do it,ask them for more details as to why they think its totalled, is it seized have they taken the sump off or the cover off the top.
Yes it is common that the oil pump fails on blb engine,although 56k is very low mileage.

I'm guessing your engine is BRE or BLB? Do a search on here and you'll see that if you got it early enough its repairable.

garage dropped sump #2 bigend bearing gone damaged crank debris in sump and fragments in oil pump and with lack of oil pressure suspected cam shaft damage

If you give this guy a call,he will give you some advice on doing your own engine,or a recon.Either way they will need the old unit.
Also he can change the oil pump to a different type so this never happens again.
They are a very good company and only do Vw Audi group diesels
Also he will sell you any parts needed.
