A warm evening to you all

My question is probably to some a bit strange as it may be self explanatory but I've never really understood the service intervals since owning 2 Audis for about 6 years now. So I understand the concept of the fixed service and long life, different intervals, depending on a number of factors and ways of driving.

However, my S3 for example.
Inspection service at 9k (last owner)
Inspection service at 17k (last owner)
Oil service (last November) 25k
Now my light is due again in 12 days time @ 27k, Is this another service? If so what service as I already had my oil changed 6months ago. Is it just a brake fluid change service light? It's been 10k since the last "inspection service" so does that mean it's due an actual service, if so what type? And changing what?

Is it me or should this be pretty simple to understand or am I being a complete bell?

Ta

Also what is an "inspection service"? I have only ever known minor or major service intervals so I presume it's a minor service, so perhaps just lubing locks etc

Hi Jay,

You aren't the only owner to be confused. ;) As far as I understand it, the inspection service is simply an oil change and a look around the car for anything wrong. Whereas the major service is an oil change, more of an in depth look at the car/lubricate whatever, but more importantly they service the other components such as fuel filters etc. if they are already overdue or if they are due soon (to save you coming back for another visit). So on the DIS you have 2 service indicators, one for an oil change and one for a service.

Turns out Alan the service light was for a brake fluid change. Next service is due in 8k miles but god knows what service as if it is oil change that service light is due in 6k miles.

Time will tell

Could anyone give any ideas what might be needed on my 2008 (facelifted) S3? It only came with a duplicate service history book and an audi service history print out so I don't have the boxes ticked as I would in a proper service history book.

12779 - "Service"
28496 - "Inspection Service"
30664 - "Oil Change Service"
39867 - "Inspection Service - Pollen"
50156 - "Interim Service" (looks like this was just an oil change from the print out with the car)

The light recently came on again at ~56500, but the car also says it's 3300 until an oil change is due....

Audi reckon they want over £300 quid but dont seem very able to tell me what they'd actually be doing for that money!!

Hi dangerm55, you might be best looking at this post of mine: Question Cambelt change interval - Page 2 (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?131315-Cambelt-change-interval&p=709625#post709625) From here you should (hopefully) be able to work out what is due.
