I am looking at purchasing an A6 avant 3.0TFSI (2009 facelift) s-line with all the trimmings. The only concern I have is the 140000 miles on the clock.

Has anyone experienced problems with a high mileage Audi?
When viewing the car what areas are of concern or that need special attention?

If it has a full Audi Service history and has been well looked after and drives, stops and turns fine then I wouldn't be too worried.

Just obviously make sure everything works including all the buttons/mmi etc.

Only the sub 30MPG combined figure would bother me.:( Although at least one member has converted theirs to run on LPG effectively doubling the MPG in cost terms.

Also not sure if petrols are on the same service intervals as deisel variants but I'd avoid any that have been on extended service.

Any warranty with it or a private sale?

Thanks for the feedback!

I shall be having a close look at the service history and anything else I can dig out about the car. I shall be buying it with warranty, but if something does go wrong after the first month or so it is always difficult to prove that the problem existed at the time of purchase and the seller will try his best to wriggle out of any claims on warranty.

I was thinking about getting an independent inspection done (perhaps RAC/AA?) but I think that they can only tell me visible things like if the brake pads are worn. Or can they inspect more thoroughly and detect the condition of the turbo, gearbox...?

Google for feedback on the inspections, seems they can have varied results.

Personally a petrol car at that mileage I wouldn't even consider if it were me but as I said above, if it all goes well then probably little doubts.

Remember you can ring Audi Customer Services on 0800 699 888 and they'll give you the full history of the car inc warranty repairs and servicing done within the dealer network.

No matter how thorough an inspection or how good a service history is the fact remains the higher the mileage the higher the risk.

Personally I wouldn't want to gamble that a car with those miles is not going to start having problems from here on in. Maybe if your a very low mileage you might think it's an acceptable risk? It partly depends on how much money your investing in it I suppose.

I bought a 2008 2.0 tdi limited edition with 148000 miles. In my view, german car, diesel, as long as your service history is good, there should be no issues. I have done now 9000 miles and did not have any problem with it, if you can take a mechanic with you to see the car and pay attention to things like cambelt, etc. then you might feel safer. At the time I bought mine, I avoided any seller that would tell me "you do not need to bring your mechanic, the car is alright."

If you are buying from a dealer and something goes wrong in the first 6 months it is for them to prove it was not there when you bought not the other way round Citizens Advice - The car you bought is faulty (http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/england/consumer_e/consumer_cars_and_other_vehicles_e/consumer_problems_with_the_car_you_bought_e/the_car_you_bought_is_faulty.htm)
