Well let me start to explain this one - vehicle starts to misifre on and off then gets to the point where its running so rough that it just cuts out and then wouldn't restart at all until it had cooled down.
First of all we thought it was the crank sensor as when it cut out it would crank and crank and we got no rpm signal in vcds.
Changed the sensor problem still persists sometimes no codes and sometimes it throws:

16685 - P0301 cylinder 1 misfire
18080- coolant fan control 1 p1672 -35-10 open or short to ground - intermittant

We have changed the injector loom even though it tested ok as i have seen crasher say they are hard to test. Its pretty much constantly running on 3 now and gets worse when warm.
Should also say that when we changed the loom for the injectors checked the resistance of each injector solenoid and they were all the same. Also checked for shorts from each pin to the injector bodies and everything was ok.

Can a worn cam lobes cause this misfire code if so how as what causes the code to flag? Surely there is only a common live and ecu earth for each injector how else does it monitor misfires?

Engine light never illuminates but car is now unsafe to drive as it keeps cutting out and not restarting in dangerous places - most recently a blind corner in a country lane :)

I have the rocker off again at the moment so will take some pics of the suspect lobes and post back

it detects misfires via the crank sensor. it can tell when the crank slows down slightly on a revolution , therefore there must be a misfire. could be cam lobes, could be an injector fault.

got wear to cam lobes but the correction value for injector was out of spec at 2.99 = maximum correction. Correction is calculated from cam and crank position also knock, mass air etc not just crank going to ship injector 1 off to be tested and stick a new cam in as it looking a bit sorry.
cheers for the input
