Hi folks,
Having some problems with my central locking.
When I press the open button on my fob, it seems to only open certain doors, but it isn't consistant. Sometimes it opens the drivers door and rear nearside passenger door and all other doors stay locked. Sometimes its the front passenger door and the boot and all others stay locked. It is random though. Another press of the door open button seems to open the rest of the doors though.
It never used to do this, it has only just started last weekend.
Any ideas?
p.s. Anyone tried to change V6 engine glow plugs - what a nightmare!! You need to strip half the top of the engine to get to them - grrr!!!!

You need a scan to see what's going on, glow plugs have been documented on here including removal I think if you do a quick browse.

My mechanic changed all plugs with a single tool within 15 mins and it didn't require anything to be removed. He also changed all the iridium plugs in my jag and the fuel filter on my A6 for the pricely sum of £35 and no VAT :biglaugh:
I'd soaked them for a couple of days beforehand with Plusgas to ease their removal as had heard they can be quite tight/stiff

I done the plugs on mine a few days ago. All I needed to remove was the right hand intake manifold swirl flap thingy.
Had all 6 done within an hour taking my time.
Am intrested to hear on the door issues as mine has done it here and there too.

Mine is also doing that, opens all doors except one. (left rear). If i lock the car and open again it opens.
There is a VCDS DTC on it, don't remember it but can post later.

Mine has done this on the rear door, driver's side for the last 4 years and as it doesn't happen very often I've put up with it.
But last year the driver's door lock went the same way, seemed to be linked to wet weather and it was doing it so often that I had to get it fixed.
I think it cost about £250 at my local independent, it took them ages as they had to pull the whole door assembly apart and replace the offending part. Fortunately they stuck to their quote...
They had seen it before (they are VAG specialists) and said it was not that unusual.

I have stripped a defective lock apart and there is no user repairable parts in them.
If you have a implausible signal fault just replace the lock after checking the wiring.

Well, a few months have gone past and the central locking fault seems to have resolved itself!
Still not got around to replacing the glow plugs but I'm just getting organised to do a major service, so I will replace them while I am at it. Having looked at the special Audi tool recommended to remove the plugs, I reckon I can concoct a similar thing using various bits of socketry and extensions! I'll let you all know how I get on!
