The gear change on my 2001(X) Alhambra is very stiff and probably needs lubricating but I can't see how to remove the center consule any ideas

Pull out the ashtray/lighter assembly under the radio then you can lift off the cover over the gear stick. I don't think there are any clips on it so you shouldn't need any tools but have a flat screwdriver handy just in case.

The front of the centre console is bolted up to the dash by a support bar held in place by two bolts, fiddly but this will enable you to remove the complete centre console around the gear lever to expose the shift mechanism
Then there are just 4 screws under the gear lever gaitor which just simply pulls off
