passat tdi engine codes dilema.

hello everyone, my name is melanie I own a 2003 tdi passat sport estate, it was a good runner untill i took it across a flooded road and snapped a con rod in the engine block (two big holes) now my dilema is i need an engine with the code avf (130 bhp) I've seen a few for sale with a silly price tag, my local vw garage/breakers say i should be paying 6 to 700! now the garage don't really know much about the engines and codes but do tell me a code of awx is the same! does anybody know this for a fact? or know of any other engine codes that will fit. it's a very expensive mistake i'm sure you will all agree. please o :dunno::dunno:please will someone help me and my passat back to better days.

You should be able to use an AWX block.

There is a complete AWX engine here, with 36k miles on it.

yes thats the one in my e-bay watch list, I've also found one in huddersfield, I keep hearing the words "should fit" I don't doubt it will fit in but will it run right?
