My b6 is fitted with a standard concert head unit but the sound seems nowhere near as good as my girlfriends b5 standard unit. did the quality deteriate between the 2 models ? Is the head unit powerfull enough to improve the system just changing factory speakers? If so any recomendations

I have just got a 2004 with the concert radio. It sounds pretty good to me but then I am comparing it to my old Mondeo!
From what I have read there are different speaker options. I think mine has 4 active speakers in the doors (main speakers+tweeters) and a sub in the rear parcelshelf.
I am not sure if that helps you though.....

In your girlfriends b5 does it says Bose on the fron speakers ? If yes, thats the catch, she has a different speaker setup. Anyway, there are different tunning options across the range, so the same radio will not sound the same in audi a4 or a6 due to the speaker locations and amplified speakers/subwoofer fitted.

Hi Adam
My B6 has tweeters and mids in the front and door speakers in the back and some sort of long speaker on the rear shelf. What would be a good replacement to improve the sound?

A new head unit will make a big difference ! Also, replacing the front speakers with a set of components (separate woofer and tweeter) will improve things further, because many aftermarket stereos will have 20-25 W RMS internal amplifiers , way more than the stock speakers can handle without distorting the sound on low freqwencies.

Ithought the audi stereo system was supposed to be quite good. do you know what sort of sond power the stock speakers can handle? I wanted if possible to keep the head unit as I just fitted the i pod adapter and I am pleased with it:approve:
I would change the speakers so long as I knew it would improve things. Did Audi offer a Bose alternative in the B6 as they must of in the B5?

Yup, BOSE was a B6 option - the difference being it's a fully amplified set-up rather than just the rears on the standard system.
I too though the Concert II was OK until I fitted the RNS-E. I can only assume the RNS-E has a better internal amp for the fronts because it honestly does sound a LOT better.

Is the RNS-e a audi fitted unit or an after market one?
Are they easy to get hold off?

RNS-E is the Audi satnav unit and I fitted it myself. Check ebay - there are loads.

If you fit an aftermarket stereo with a harness adapter, will the active rear subwoofer and all tweeters still work?

Provided you use the correct adapter for your car, yes it will work correctly. Make sure the Pre-amp output from the replacement stereo is at least 3v for best results.

Hey Guys,
thought i would add to an old thread rather than starting a new one..
I have a concert cd player in a 2002 b6, I do have the little sub in the rear parcel shelf. Does this mean i have the standard 10 speaker system with rear amp?
I have this (http://www.audio66.com/product.asp?id=5941&cat=1&man=1&main=1&userid=350871626402559243402778&firstsel=cat&variation=) stereo and love it. Its been in my last car and works so well. Im just a little unsure about fitting it...
Will this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PC9-404-Audi-A2-A3-A4-A6-A8-Amplified-RCA-to-ISO-Lead_W0QQitemZ150351108325QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Ca rs_Parts_Vehicles_Terminals_Cabling_ET?hash=item23 019fd8e5) do the job?
Thanks in advance!

Just bought a B6 Avant and the sound is pretty dull compared to what I had in my B5 saloon which had sony headunit and blaupunkt speakers. Seems that Audi have lost a trick here by fitting duff sound sustems to what is otherwise a great car. I see sugestions regarding fitting aftermarket head units and wonder will I lose the in dash display of tracks and chanells?
