Hi,

I've just got my first VW (2012 Golf S 1.4 TSI Blue Graphite Metallic), really pleased with it, but I need to make one modification... add a 3.5mm aux jack to the basic RCD 210 stereo. From what I've read online, I think I should be able to hook up the jack to mimic a CD changer, but I have not been able to get it to work.

I'd appreciate any help or tips. I think the connections should be fairly common on most VW radios, so maybe if you don't know the RCD210 you can still help me out...

Here are some details:

Basically I've turned it off, removed the CD that was in the player, plugged in the cable as it came (set up for the AUX pin-out: COM, AF-L, AF-R). I didn't expect this to work because I've not had the Aux enabled at a dealership. It didn't work.

OK so then I re-arranged the pins so that I use the CD Changer pins: COM, L, R. I thought that would work. But it doesn't. Am I missing something? From what I could tell it seemed that the Aux enable is different to the CDC enable. Does it need to sense a CD Changer in order to work?

First post, and there is a fair chance I've missed something and need to get the aux enabled anyway - if so, then sorry, but I hope you can set me straight on this!

Cheers.

PS If I can get this to work, I'm thinking of getting this to stick in the row of mostly unused buttons by the gearstick: AUX CABLE AUDIO SWITCH FOR VW Volkswagen GOLF MK6 5KD 035 724 A | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OEM-AUX-CABLE-AUDIO-SWITCH-FOR-VW-Volkswagen-GOLF-MK6-5KD-035-724-A-/201024417870?ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:GB:1120)

Has anyone tried doing this? I am also interested in this but I dont know if the cable will work on my unit without having the dealer enabling AUX on my unit?

If the unit is already configured for an AUX input, I think there is a setting in the memu to enable it.
If there is no AUX setting in the menu, the dealer (or someone with VCDS) will need to change the software coding for you.

Jim.

I purchased an RCD310 with DAB, removed the old RCD 210 and plugged in the new one. Working with the AUX cable.

Sounds so much better than the RCD210 and no more CD "whirring/searching" problems when using CD's.

I've got a feeling the rcd210 doesn't support aux/ changers. Your best bet is to upgrade to a 310 as above or 510, they aren't expensive of eBay

Hello, just thought I'd update this thread. A friend with a 2010 1.6 TDI S asked me for my help to retrofit an AUX cable. The wiring the OP has specified is correct but the missing step is you need to enable the input on VCDS as hinted by another poster. Its just a case of going onto the coding for the radio then theres a couple of options (AUX Input Active and AUX Input Monitoring) that require enabling. Once that's done it starts working immediately by pressing MEDIA and selecting AUX on the screen! You also gain an extra option in the settings to adjust the AUX volume level (1 - 3) which is useful if your phone/ iPod output is low, i.e. so the AUX input mode is always X higher than CD/ FM.

Another little tip, if you drill a hole at the rear of the plastic cubby hole inside the RCD 210 you can poke the cable through the back and then have your media player sat inside there. Seems to work well :)
