Had trouble starting car this pm - car started eventually

battery status showed 0% drove car for 45 minutes and battery meter still showed 0% after journey.

tried to to start car after 1 hour of 45 min journey car won't start.

(waiting for AA to come out) - but I am guessing battery is not holding charge.

i read on page 24 on link below it says "when the vehicle battery is replaced the energy management control unit J644 needs to be encoded

Is this a way of main dealers making more money To force u to go to Audi ?

Many thanks

You just need vcds to tell the car the new battery. If you're not changing amp or power output this step isn't necessary afaik.

Can't have that link up soz :)

Hi A6chris

sorry to sound thick but..

So If the battery is swapped like for like , the energy module doesn't need to be encoded.

As far as I know and going on how much I've read on here it'll be fine if swapping like for like.

I thought the charging status was different for a new and old battery this is one of the reasons the car needs to be told. Anyone with VCDS can do this though.

Oh I see,(won't post that type of info again)

the AA have been and gone, Sod's law - turned car over , ( in presence of the AA ) and the Car fired up and started with out problem ,

battery status still showing 0% ?

AA guy used meter and said the battery is charging.

turned car off and put his meter on battery and it showed 12.4volts

he asked me to start car- when I started car , battery voltage dropped to 9 volts during starting processing and went back up to 13.9 volts on tick over.

he said try car tomorrow morning to see if it starts ..... So until tomorrow

Hi

I have had my battery replaced by my local VW/ Audi specialist

new battery installed was a BOSCH with 4 year guarantee, Battery and 1 hours labour

charged £180.00 inc vat.

would of done my self but don't have VCDS yet ,no one in my area who does.

the battery removed was the original car is on a 56 plate.

just wondered what price you guys have paid for a battery change ? , be interesting to compare
