Is this normal for a speaker install or will I have a problem down the line?...

I've posted this in the ICE section as well!

I've had my B6 Passat in for a water test due to a front footwell damp carpet and have found out that it's coming from a blocked drain hole in the engine bay. Well they have sorted that out, but at the time checked the door area after taking the door cards off.

Last year I had some new speakers and an amp fitted by another company (who I know very well for a number of years) and had a small issue with some rattling from the door area. It went back in and the company sorted this out, and I have not had any problems since.

My friend at the garage sorting the leak out said he was a shocked to see the 'tin foil' around the speaker installation when they were investigating the leak problem

I was just wondering if by the pics attached there was a real problem with the way the work was done and if I should be worried or annoyed! To his eyes it looks a bit shoddy.

Any thoughts anyone...

At first I thought it was a botch job but I was concentrating the tin foil description, if you look closely it doesn't look like tin foil there is some kind of pattern on it like some specialist sound proofing.It might be the speakers are so powerful they need to try and stop the sound/vibration from traveling Down the door.
I don't know if this is standard practice or anything else about it other than it looks like some specialist material.

That is just sound deadening mat. Normal stuff to use.

An ICE thread :-):-):-):-). Brings back memories of almost 20yrs ago!!.

As the other guys have said fat mat or dynamat. I would imagine around £50-£60 per door. Having said that ICE is a lot cheaper now than in the 90's. Its purpose is simply to stop rattles and insulate the sound. Also you would make sure the speakers are sealed to stop any air leakage from around the speakers.
