My google maps packed in yesterday. Today when I hit the Nav it shows the "Google Earth" loading page for about 20 mins then gives up with:
23486
And indeed it does switch to standard map.
Is this something I can fix or is it a trip to the dealers?

Fixed it. Just waited a bit then set the map type back to google maps in nav/settings and that seems to have done it.

That's odd! Mine ran out of data today so had to put a new SIM card in. Got just under 3 months from the last one which had 3gb of data or 3 months, whichever came first.

I don't think it had anything to do with the data on my 3G plan as I still have about 8GB left of a 12GB plan. So the error must refer to something else.
Does the MMI+ have a hard disk somewhere? Maybe it was just a HDD error. Not sure. Anyway it's working now.

Yes MMI+ does have a hard disk for storing both the navigation data and also other media you choose to put there. I am wondering if this e=was a cache problem in that it had failed to delete old versions of the map data and thus you ran out of space. Waiting for it to sort itself out and delete old data then did the trick. This is only a thought and has no hard and fast data to support it but in effect using Google maps in the car is not much different to using it on a PC and it will need to cache the data each time to ensure it continues to work if you lose the data connection
